Hello,

i wonder if someone can help me pick a major for me in-order to get in dental school

is there specific major that most dental school like and favor over the others ?

or a great major that can be really good " plan B " .

second question is kinda of stupid but forgive me im little bit confused

now, in-order to get in dental school i have to get a bachelor's degree. so i can apply to dental school.

well, my question is :
is the 4-years dental school consider as bachelor's degree or master degree ?
i tried google it but i found there is many different master degrees for dentist !

i though the 4-years of dental school ( Doctor of dental medicine or surgery ) is the master degree for dentist. !

i hope someone help me understand how USA education works.

Thanks 🙂

Being that you are not from the US I will respond otherwise I was just gona smh and move on.

The 4 years of dental school is considered a doctorate degree. 2=associates 4=bachelors 6=masters 8=doctrate.

Their is a DDS degree and a DMD degree , and they are both the exact same thing no difference what soever there.

..

And as far as the major goes, you can major in whatever you want. so go for something you are interested in, because the schools could care less what major you have.

BUTTTT, you have to complete the 4 pre reqs, General chem 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Biology 1 and 2, and Organic chem 1 and 2.

My recomendation if you want to become a dentist is to major in something in the sciences, Biology/chemistry/anatomy/physics/biochemistry , another good option is to major in Clinical lab science they pay well if you dont get into D school.

And there is a ton of other majors you just have to choose what interest you and take as many sciences as possible, im talking all the pre reqs and add in Biochemistry/anatomy/genetics/microbiology.

Hope I helped. Sorry for any typos I did that pretty quick.

Just to clarify, you need a four year bachelor's degree in order to apply for dental school. (I know this is not a requirement for many other countries.) Many people apply during their last year. That is why it takes a total of eight years. Some people also complete a masters program if their bachelor's GPA is not strong enough, but most people only apply with a bachelors. So it is four years of bachelors, and four years of dental. This gives you a bachelors and a doctorate (DDS or DMD.)

thanks you two for the the answers 🙂

but i didnt understand this part Titus Times. hope you explain it to me

what do you mean by those numbers ? 2,4,6,8 ?

is the system in us count your degree as " associates " if you studied 2 years ?
and " bachelors " if you study for 4 years no matter what you major in ?

is my understanding correct ?

Thanks 🙂

Yes. Your understanding is correct 🙂

hmm that will be difficult

becuase im under scholarship program and i can major in bachelor's easily
but the problem is when i apply to dental school. what do i tell them ?
upgrade my scolarship to master or doctorate ?

i guess i have to go down to their main campus and ask by myself

Thanks guys 🙂

A DDS or DMD is called a first professional degree and is equivalent to a second bachelors degree in most European countries.

I majored in Spanish because I enjoy the language and figured speaking Spanish as a second language would be more beneficial to me in the long run than a Biology degree. I don't feel like I was at any disadvantage as an arts major while in DS and have had a lot of great opportunities to treat Spanish speaking patients. As long as you have your pre-reqs, major in something you enjoy. Keep up the GPA in whatever you do and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the posts people 🙂

still did not decide

but i got one more question. can i major in chemical engineering or any engineering major and then apply to dental school ? or will it be too hard for me to keep high GPA and gain good scores in DAT ?

i love chemistry, but i want a good major with good job market as " plan B " just in-case i don't make it to my dream ( dental school )
