well im havin some trouble with my schedule, im a psych major and im trying to see where to fit in all of my med school prereqs. englishes, maths and bio 1-2 are part of my major course work. the rest of the prereqs are not part of my major. where am i gonna find room for physics 1-2, org chem 1-2, and chem 1-2 without overdoing it? plus, how can i insure that i have all of these classes before the mcats, because (if im not mistaken) subjects from those classes are included on the mcats.

I haven't taken less than 17 hours in a semester, add lab work and I am at school for more than 20 hours always. For example, I have class/lab 26hours a week this semester.

If you are already take 16-19 hours, then you will have to cut something else out, but if you are only taking 12-15hours, just add more classes.

First of all, what year are you in right now? Are you a freshman, a sophomore? How much time you have left is important in knowing when you need to take things.

Some general advice- since most people take the mcat at the end of junior year, you need to double up in a lab science one year- probably not freshmen year if you can avoid it. If for some reason you really just don't have time, you can take summer school in a pre-req science.

I think the recommended premed schedule, at my university at least, involves English and gen chem freshman year, orgo sophomore year, and physics junior year. Biology, here, is taken with the first semester spring of freshman year and the second semester in the fall of sophomore year. Then you take the MCAT in April junior year.

I was an Anthropology major...I found that taking some of my electives and coursework for the major during the summers helped clear up space during the Fall and Spring. At my school you can sometimes take some of the pre-med prereqs over the summer, in a condensed version (like Orgo 1 and 2 during Summer A and B), I had a friend who did this, and while he worked hard that summer, he freed up some space in the fall for physics and some labs.

Plan on taking a summer course or two. Better yet, study abroad for a summer and get some requirements out of the way.
