Hi all,

I noticed psych has a very cush lifestyle-- only 40 h/wk with minimal to no call averaging approx 150k/year-- anyone know of any ways to boost your income as a psychiatrist-- is there some procedure, or group therapy that one can do? Also, how is forensic psych? Any thoughts from those in the real world? Thanks.

Can someopne please answer his question? also, is there more money in addiction psych? how much do they make?thanks

Just had a lecture from a forensics specialized psychiatrist working in a large city on the east coast, he gets $400/hr for forensic evals (all the time he spends reading background charts, interviewing client, travel time, preparing reports is billable) and he gets $800/hr for his time spent appearing in court. Another child psychiatrist I met makes $250/hr from managed care companies because he's the only child psychiatrist within a 2 hour radius and can command that kind of reimbursement. It's all about where you work and if you specialize.

Go inpatient (reimbursement is better) and do ECT (procedures, procedures, procedures...).

Addiction psych can theoretically pay more, but usually as a "medical director" of a treatment facility, etc.
