I paid my own premiums for the first time in Jan, was about 2100 bucks.

Annual rate of 2100 something. I can scan the .pdf of it to prove it. Insurance underwriters take into account everything when you get your quoted rate including training background, number of board certifications and educational history. I was told I had the best possible profile, hence the low rate. It goes up every year as your build your risk portfolio.

so much depends on your specialty...Dermatopaths have high risk of malpractice sutis due to melanoma and hempaths also....so those have higher premiums...

Another thing is the practice location. If you are purely outpatient and dont have a quality oversight committee (as most outpatient dermpaths), your rates are 5-10x higher. If you do solely dermpath, yeah you are paying alot more.

shouldnt the office you work in cover some part?

Eh? YOU are the office bro. Yes, your "office" covers it as a business expense. If you are employed by someone as a subcontractor often you have to carry your own. If you are a FT employee, then it is usually paid for by the business.
