Which medical specialties carry the heaviest price tags with respect to malpractice rates and which are relatively free from malpractice burdens?

Expensive:
1) Ob-gyn
2) surgery (neuro especially)

Expensive, but not as much:
1) Psych
2) FP

Not in that order, necessarily.

Psych? FP?

That's really strange.

I thought it would be Anesthesiologist, Neurosurgeon....

What he means to say is that ALL specialties have high insurance rates. Psych and Family Practice just happen to be the least expensive. I wrote a summary about the malpractice epidemic a few years ago. I've also posted a letter to my congressman on my web site. Feel free to adapt it for your own needs.

The three generally most expensive are:

Anaesthesiology - $500,000
OB/Gyn - $250,000
Emergency Medicine - $250,000

This will vary somewhat by region, but these are basically the fields with the highest malpractice rates.

The anesthesiology rate seems unfathomable? Where is it?

There are substantial differences between states that have instituted true caps and those states that invite its residents to play the lawsuit lottery.

Louisiana, for example, has great rates; Florida, has very poor rates.

I know this doesn't directly apply to allopathic medicine, but how do rates for general practicing dentists compare?

wow 500,000?

is that a year? um how do they make ANY money then?

Yeah I nearly fainted when I heard the anaesthesiology rate -- I'm referencing an economics lecture I recently had, so I don't doubt it. But yeah, pretty damn awful, isn't it?
:scared: :scared:
