I just wanted to clarify--volvulus is always symptomatic, whereas malrotation might be discovered incidentally?

Malrotation and volvulus are different entities, although midgut volvulus is usually a result of malrotation. To answer your question, yes, malrotation may be asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. Volvulus usually causes symptoms due to obstruction and ischemia. Here's some trivia though - what kind of volvulus may also be asymptomatic?

I cant think of it, unless youre referring to some kind of hernia.
