Yea so I've been receiving more rejections than I can count.

My stats are MCAT 22N (8,7,7) and I have a 3.55 overall and 3.1 science.

Here is my status so far:

  • LECOM-E = Rejected
[*]LECOM-Br = I got a "Your file will be reviewed within the next 30 days.." type letter
  • CCOM (#1 choice) = Rejected
  • DMU = Rejected
    [*]DCOM = Awaiting post-interview letter...probably a rejection/waitlist
  • KCOM = Hold for later review (pre-interview)
    [*]NYCOM = Nothing so far
    [*]PCOM = Nothing so far
[*]NSUCOM (#2 choice) = Nothing so far - have been complete for 1.5 months
  • WVSOM = Rejected

Yea...an ego crusher I know. Especially considering I have an orgo midterm and religions midterm tommorow (then i'm finally done with exams! 🙂 ).

I think I'm going to take the March MCAT and will begin studying for it after the holidays, assuming I don't hear anything between now and then from the underlined schools.

Well, just thought I'd update you guys on my status.

🙁

Peace

Just hang in there man. You never know what might happen.

TRY to stay positive - as a reapplicant, I do know it is hard to do. IF it turns out you have to re-apply, call some of the schools, especially the ones you're really interested in, and ask them for some input on how to improve for next time. It may be they want some additional class, or experiences, or letters of recommendation, but you also know that increasing your scores can help. Hang in there - believe that it will happen even if it means you have to do more to make it so. :luck:

I'm sorry to hear that....you know what you need to do already....get that MCAT up

I know. The thing with my MCAT that is so frustrating is that I was getting an avg of 32 with the AAMC practice tests. But I was very sick and in a lot of pain for the 3 weeks upto the august MCAT and ontop of that I got like 5 hours of sleep the night before from preexam jitters I guess. So I knew I was capable of a good outcome, and it hurts me to know that I got a 22N especially since I spent a good 5 months preping.

Anyways

Thanks for the kinds words, both of you.

I am sorry to hear that bro, but you know, hang in there, you will be accepted, just keep trying. One more thing, remember that MCAT and GPA is not everything in this game. Do you have a number of ECs? How about some clinical experience? Any community service? Take care..

But that's good news because that means you can really raise your score on a retake. 🙂 Some people really lack the ability to do better on the test for whatever reason, but that doesn't sound like you. Also, DCOM just might come through for you. :luck:

My ECs are really good I think. 6 months of shadowing with a D.O. family doc and a single experience in an Iraqi hospital. Thats it for clinical. As for other ECs I'm very active in my community and am an exec at school for a religious organization.

I sent in one LOR from the D.O. I shadowed, 1 from my physics prof, 1 from a bio prof, and one from a psych prof. (1 DO, 2 science, and 1 non-science).

Maybe one of those profs said something bad about me...I don't know? I hope not.

And you had a second set of eyes look over your personal statement, your essays, etc?? I'm sure you did... It can be many things - that's why calling to get some feedback could be really helpful. Also see if there are a few schools that it isn't too late to add to your application? It's more money, more work, but can be better than reapplying if it comes to it!
Keep the faith, though - whatever happens! :luck: :luck:

PS:

Also, a LOT of people haven't heard from some of those schools you still haven't heard from!!
And some of them have pretty competitive applications - so it can simply be that it will take a while longer to hear from them, and nothing to do with a bad result forthcoming!! (Places like NY, especially, that has a significant in-state preference...)

hang in there.

i'm in a very similar boat as you, but i'm doing a master's at the school i want to go to, so i am hoping very much that helps me out a bit.

keep a positive outlook, and remember that people get accepted until may, and taken off waitlists up until days before classes start. and if worse comes to worse, we reapply (and retake that damn mcat).

:luck: :luck: :luck:

Stick with it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. People have been telling me that I couldn't do it for years...

Take a course and bring that MCAT up. The hardest thing to do for the MCAT is to fight those "jitters". I got 2.5 hours of sleep the night before the MCAT and I started to run out of gas during the writing section... my bs section is evidence of that (I was getting 10's and 11's consistently on the practice exams) I know a 9 is considered fairly good, but point is that I had been doing better. I don't want to be a jerk so I'll digress.

When I took my diagnostic I got a 21 and then I busted my ass for three months to get near a 30. I know that you can score better if you have a 3.5 cum GPA. The MCAT is intimidating, but it's just a test... if you study hard you will get results...

Perhaps, as another responder said, you will hear from some of those remaining schools such as DCOM. Best of luck, buddy. Medical school is in your future, you just gotta hang in there and not give up. Please keep us posted!

👍 Best of luck!:luck:

i was going to say drink..........but i guess retaking the mcat is a better idea

Keep working & volunteering. Hit 27 or better on the MCAT and you will be good.

I am precisely one of these people, and I have acceptances from other places. So yeah, just keep your fingers crossed man.

So sorry to hear that. My MCAT was only a 23Q and my GPA is only a 3.2 and I got accepted to DCOM, so maybe you will get accepted there. Just keep believing in yourself and you will accomplish your dreams. GOOD LUCK!!!😀 :luck:

I definitely say retake if you know you can do better. Try to keep moving forward. I understand how disappointing it can be. Good luck.

I would consider working as a tech in a hospital or some other clinical experiences. Also, I wonder if the fact that you are a Canadian citizen is working against you. I mean, a lot of these schools want reassurance that their students are going to stay in the area and work with that particular community. I have nothing against Canada or anything (I am a dual Canadian/American citizen) 😀 . I have definetly heard of people getting into DO schools with your same stats, so keep the faith. 👍

you need to get that mcat and science gpa upupup. Just ensures that you get into the school that you want.

It's not too late to apply to more AACOMAS schools. Try applying to the new Tuoro in NY, I don't think that many people will be applying there this year since it is later in the season.

I bet alot of people have given some great advice to you but I don't feel like reading all of the posts. I don't have any advice but more or less a word of optimisim. I am a pre-med student with a 23 mcat and a 3.33. Based on the numbers there should be VERY little chance for me to get in. Yet I got into both WVSOM and PCOM-Ga. I'm not telling you this to make you feel worse, I'm only saying it to make you feel better. With your numbers we look equal, at least in my opinion, someone will give you an interview. This is where I normally excel and suggest you work on as well. Both my interviews got me in and I know once you get one, you can do the same. Just hope and wait for that interview chance and eventually it will come. Once you have that it will be up to you to talk your way in.

cheers to this advice. (I also have a 23 and a 3.3 gpa)...all it takes is one interview for the chance to prove yourself.

Yea so I've been receiving more rejections than I can count.

My stats are MCAT 22N (8,7,7) and I have a 3.55 overall and 3.1 science.

Here is my status so far:

  • LECOM-E = Rejected
[*]LECOM-Br = I got a "Your file will be reviewed within the next 30 days.." type letter
  • CCOM (#1 choice) = Rejected
  • DMU = Rejected
    [*]DCOM = Awaiting post-interview letter...probably a rejection/waitlist
  • KCOM = Hold for later review (pre-interview)
    [*]NYCOM = Nothing so far
    [*]PCOM = Nothing so far
[*]NSUCOM (#2 choice) = Nothing so far - have been complete for 1.5 months
  • WVSOM = Rejected

Apply to Touro-Harlem, I think that is your best bet. Other than that, bring your science GPA up and retake the MCAT.

where did you shadow a DO in Canada. I was thinking we should open a DO in Canada! I bet you there will be tons of ppl who would want to go 👍

Retake the MCAT. I had pretty much the same GPA's that you did, and actually scored the same as you on the MCAT first time around. I didn't even bother applying as my score was below the national average. It's tough, but you probably just need to suck it in and give it another shot. After I retook it, I got interviews at almost every school I applied too. Hang in there!

Thanks for all the input guys. I love this site. Its been so helpful in this process :luck:

I'm also a Dual citizen; so I don't think its that.

Peace all🙂

Yeah, don't stress yet. I applied to NYCOM and PCOM and have only heard crickets chirping from their direction so far (and I have a stellar MCAT and ECs). This process sucks, but if you want it bad enough (and esp if you are willing to retake the MCAT) I believe you can make it :luck:

If you don't care what school try pscom,vcom,wsvom,pcom-ga, unecom,dcom,lecom=bradenton/ good luck!
