just wondering what people are putting down for the question that asks you to explain any 'skills' you may have in manual dexterity. you guys think wood work in terms of building a house counts? playing the guitar?

I think it should be arts or someting like that 😕

On my application I put that I played the violin and played x-box. I would say the guitar is a great answer, along with the wood working. My advisor always said I should take a sculpture or jewlry making class to better manual dexterity. I haven't done that yet so...

X-Box? are you serious?

also, i helped build a school, should i put it down. I really don't think something like this should be put down but I guess if you all are putting down bull ****, then I should too 😛

Yeah, what can I say, I've got alot of guy friends so I spent alot of my weekends playing Halo. I didn't know if I should put it at first, but all of the dentists I shadow said it was a good answer. It takes a lot of hand-eye coordination to reap havoc playing Halo with 12 people 😉

I was thinking of putting down PS2 for about a second, then decided not to. Good luck!

I will note the following on my application for manual dexterity:

Bowling

Typing

Cooking

Fishing

High school arm wrestling champion (twice)

Fencing

Finger dancing - I think this is a little 'corny' (might leave it out)

Massage therapy class

Wrist clench work outs

Family mercy champion '02, '04

Family rock-paper-scissors champion '01, '02, '05

I don't think there is an appropriate way of listing masturbation as a manual dexterity skill (and also - i don't see why you did not spell it out, it IS a word found in the dictionary).

I don't think I'll include anything of that kind of nature.

As far as desparation goes - the question I ask my self is - will it hurt? I mean, I want the ad coms to KNOW that I'm serious when it comes to my hands and what I can do with them. I think I was Picasso in my past life.

are the other ones funny too?

i don't think there'll be any problem if you select "no" for that section that asks "are there any activities involving manual dexterity you would like to notify us of?"...

saying no is better than making up a bunch of crap and sounding desperate...

i think if you select no, it may come up in the interview...and you could ask them to make this question more specific...

for example, typing could be classified as an activity involving manual dexterity...but if that's not what they're looking for (and they are looking for something more artistic), it might sound like you're trying too hard, and in turn, they may not take you seriously...

Just put "onanism"....chances are it will go right over their heads and will make for an interesting interview question.

My manual dexterity skills:

proficiency with various dental procedures

jewelry-making and painting as hobbies

Hopefully those will sound important and worthwhile.

I put that I have played guitar and piano for 11 years. I'm a classically trained piano player (refuse to call myself a pianist) but my real love is the guitar. I hope this is good enough for the them....I didn't want to list alot because I then think you become less valuable of a candidate.
