Hey,

What kind of answer do they expect for this question? The only sculpture class I took was in high school and I guess I was ok at that. What other activities would require manual dexterity?

Do you play any kind of instrument? I heard last year some people put playing video games as a practice of manual dexterity. So stuff like that.

A honest answer at that... If you trully are good with your hands, be able to prove it. When I was at my interview at Indiana, the director was telling us stories of how he caught kids lying on there application. For instance he asked one guy a really technique question on the piano. The director knows, that if this guy indeed played the piano he would have no trouble answering the question. Turns out this kid had no Idea. Instant denial.....

My left hand has tons of dexterity. Maybe that's why my left forearm is so much bigger than the right....

Video games!! 😀 Studies have shown that playing video games enhances a person's hand-eye coordination and this may also enhance a person's manual dexterity.

I've got really strong thumbs! 😀

How about me being good at giving manicures and painting nails...I do it for my family all the time. Would that be considered good manual dexterity?

I'm in love with video games. Halo 2 is the best!! Are you sure the admissions committee is going to take that seriously? I wonder about that. I'm sure playing does increase your manual dexterity and all, but I'm envisioning them reading that and then laughing really loud...I may put it anyway. I just don't want it to hurt me, ya know?

I took classical guitar and I mentioned that I played and received professional instruction by which I meant the classes that I had taken and included in the courses section.

Just be creative. I've heard people use things from how fast they can type, musical ability, crochet, American Sign Language, in addition to sculpting, model building, etc...... If you do use an unconventional example (ie ASL) they give you plenty of space to explain why you think it demonstrates ManDex. When I interviewed at UW last year it was also important to be able to say how long you've had the skill.

I'm a golfer and a pretty good one for that matter. I'd like to think decent hand-eye skills are needed for that. Should I put that down? I wanna say I can do the tricks from that Tiger Woods commercial...but I doubt that would be acceptable. 😀

hey--I know i've recently learned how to do tons of poker chip tricks--and i'm great with my pen--like all those pen twirling/flipping around tricks--great for a dull lecture---- Now if I applied to an american college, could I mention those skills? seems almost silly to me--then again I aced the Canadian carving section--I'd probably lead with that. But everyone loves a good Poker chip trick!

I've mastered the skill of flower making... Oh and I'm also good at cooking and cake decorating. This question is going to make me seem like the typical 60s housewife who's only good at doing nails and baking lol.

Don't stress this question, I just put normal stuff. I.E., I played trumphet a couple of years in middle school, basketball etc. and i got into my schools, most things you do in life require the use of your hands and eye-hand coordination.

On a side note I agree with the video game thing I have been playing xbox 360 lately (fight night 3!) and the controller has so many triggers and joysticks that I feel like i need another hand to play it!

I put golf! Why the hell not?! I to have mastered the tricks from the tiger commercial as well 😀 Lets see though, Guess you could put down an incredible ability to bounce golf balls on your lob wedge?
