im filling out the secondary and i notice the question about LORs. it says to submit either a committee report from prehealth committee (which my school has) or in the event that there is none send a letter from a bio or chem prof. ive submotted 5 letters through addsas none of which are from the prehealth advisor or a chem teacher. what should i do? its too late to set up an appointment with the advisor, but i feel lile id be lying if i checked the box that said my school didnt have one. should i go hunt down a chem prof and ask him to write and send a letter directly to maryland. other than that complication, the maryland app is fairly easy. no essay queations. thanks for the help

You just might get a more reliable answer if you called the school in question.

yup. they said to just leave the chem one blank and they'd call me if they think i need it.

That's what I did. I had five letters, two from biology, one from humanities, one from my employer, and one from a dentist. They never said a word about not having a chem professor LOR, but I'm sure it depends on the overall strength of your application. If you got the secondary I think you have a very good chance of getting an interview, so don't worry about it.

Did anyone receive an email from maryland stating:
Thank you for applying to the University of Maryland Dental School. An initial review of your AADSAS application indicates that you will not have completed the following requirements for admission by the June 30th deadline:

¨ 6 hours English Composition
¨ 8 hours with labs: General Biology
¨ 8 hours with labs: Organic Chemistry
¨ 8 hours with labs: Inorganic Chemistry
ý8 hours with labs: Physics
ý 3 hours of Biochemistry
¨ 90 semester hours

Please be aware that we do not receive a copy of your transcript/s from AADSAS. AADSAS provides a course work summary and in most instances, you are not deficient in completing the required course/s, rather it is that we have been unable to accurately identify the course from the information provided.

Please email Sheila McNair, Academic Program Specialist, at [email protected] and explain how you intend to fulfill these requirements, or provide the course prefix, course number and title corresponding to the listed coursework.

I never got that email, but I did get an email stating that my application has been processed and will be forwarded for review on 8/17 and I still have yet to hear from them about a supplemental app

Yeah, I got that email last year. They weren't sure which courses I was counting for my advanced writing class. Just call the admissions office to ask which requirements haven't been met, then email Sheila the course names and numbers that you will be taking or have taken to fulfill the requirements. It's not a problem, they don't look down on you for it, just get it taken care of.

They didn't email me back. I got the email about course deficiencies on September 3rd, I emailed them back that afternoon, and I didn't hear from them again until I got the secondary application on October 29th. So it might delay you some, but it shouldn't really make a huge difference in the long run. I think I called them about a week after I emailed the update to make sure that they got it.

So you don't need to have a chem lOR? i have 2 biology, 1 physics, 1 employer, and 2 dentists

They prefer it, but people get in without it. I don't know the exact numbers, maybe I'm an exception. I wouldn't let it stop me from applying to Maryland if I didn't have it though. There is always a chance.

Is the Maryland secondary something they mail/email after an initial review of your application or is it something you have to get off their website? Thanks!

They email it to you after reviewing your application. I don't know if it will be the same this year, but for the past several years everyone who got the secondary application got an interview invitation a few days after they submitted it. So Maryland is not one of those schools that just sends their secondary to everyone. If you get it, it's probably a pretty good sign.
