Hello all,
I have been fortunate enough to receive an MD interview. The interview is online, however, I plan to attend it in a public albeit private area (i.e room in a library). My state has an indoor mask mandate and I would want no issues.

Is it okay to wear a mask in an online interview?

I haven't interviewed anyone while they were wearing a mask. But if you explain your situation at the beginning of the interview ("I apologize in advance, the library is the only semi-private place I can find with a reliable internet connection and they have a very strict indoor mask policy. I hope this is okay"), I would not have any problems with it. Given the ongoing pandemic and surge, I do not think any reasonable person will fault you for this. Not all applicants have the luxury of a reliable internet connection and/or a stable home environment. Just my thoughts.

Agree with @Goro . Try to find a less restrictive place to hold the interview. Very wise to explain why you would be wearing a mask on a zoom interview if it comes to that. Otherwise interviewers will think you are the reason they put directions on a shampoo bottle. LOL. JK. Find a better place for the interview. Good luck and best wishes!

It is very difficult to interview someone who is wearing a mask. Check with your local authorities. Indoor mask mandates may not apply if you are the only person in a room. Do you think that the indoor mask mandates apply to someone alone in a hotel room??

Maybe appeal to the library staff for a less public space where your mask could be removed. This is a special circumstance! Facial expressions can provide important information to an interviewer.

I feel like it would be wrong for them to consciously ding you for wearing it. I do think you will be missing a significant portion of the interview though which is them trying to gauge who you are. Seeing your facial expressions is important for communication and them not being able to see that may make them view iou as someone they didn't learn about very much.
