Hey all. I was wondering if there are any alumni here that did Mass Gen SRTP or Harvard SHURP last summer. I will be applying soon and would like to hear what your experiences where like. Happy new year!! 🙂

lol nope but I did BWH Stars last year and hung out with many of the Harvard Shurp students.

I nearly shocked my tongue on an electric socket when I saw that image.

Oh, you did BWH STARS?
How hard was it to get in?
What were your stats and research experience?

Thanks.

All jokes aside, I wanted to know this as well. He posted in my research thread and I did not have time to do a follow-up.

Ok, obviously this thread did not worked.

No one has ever done this SRTP program because it is so super compettitive or people dont want to talk about it, so...

How do I erase a thread??

😕

You don't bump the post like 20 days after it went to the place threads like this go to die.

Hello, I did the BWH Stars program and it was excellent, I can definitely tell you that each year it gets more and more competitive. I think I did it's 5th year or so, which was last summer. I had a 3.6, previous research experience from another summer research program where I had presented in the symposium and a REALLY strong letter of rec, which the head of the program even commented on. As well as a pretty good personal statement. The program is aimed towards urms and you do research under physicians or scientist who are Harvard medical school faculty and associated with the Brigham and Women's hospital. And many of the summer programs under harvard med met each other in the Vanderbilt hall medical school dorms where we would hang out in the lounges and watch basketball or the olympics(in my case). PM me for questions.

Well, the thread was dead before you bumped it...

Great!
This is awesome information. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Another thread about paying to do an every-other-weekend slurper job (you've all read House of God by this point) at some ivy to add to your resume for...medical school? These don't mean much more to me than just that when I see them on a resume. Getting an MPH or MBA from the ivy schools or any school, for that matter, would probably hold more weight to an adcom. But what would I know.

OK, time to let this one die.

These programs are full-time jobs for an entire summer, and they pay you, not the other way around.

If these schools pick up the housing and travel expenses while paying them a stipend, that's one hell of a job offer to someone very early in their medical training. If not, I'm not sure why they posted for one or two specific schools then. If they were truly interested in doing good research over the summer for around $10-12 an hour, I'm sure they could have done it anywhere, but since it's SDN, they had to name some ivy league school to get more attention.

HEY MOM, I STARTED A THREAD THAT HAS HARVARD AND I IN IT! I'M GOING TO HARVARD!
