I am currently a pre-dental student, but I am exploring other career choices.

I already have a Master's in Biology degree. If I want to get a PharmD, how would I prepare myself in doing so? I was looking at the prerequisites, and I have just about 0 credits in humanities, but have about all the sciences.

Do I still need to take all the prerequisites outside of the sciences considering that I am already have a Master's Degree? If I enter, what year student would I be?

I would imagine that since you have an undergraduate degree you should have had to take some humanities in order to graduate. Are you not counting them?

I lack economics, anatomy/physiology, sociology, humanities, and history.

for instance, I am looking at the

"Doctor of Pharmacy Accelerated PharmD Worcester/Manchester, N.H."

and I am missing Eng I, Eng II, Intro to Socio, Intro to History or Political Science, Physics, Economics and Humanities Electives.

So I need to retake all of those???

I am browsing around, and it seems that this program is the best way for someone already with a Bachelor's degree to get into a 3 year program? Instead of the undergrad 6 years?

Generally you have to complete all of the prereqs even if you have bachelor, master, PhD, or no degree.

You should also be comparing 3 year against 4 year as 6 years isn't an option. In this case, an accelerated program doesn't make that much of a difference in terms of time saving.

Some schools make a couple exceptions for classes like rhetoric if you have a BS or other degree. This is school-specific and you'll need to discuss with every school you want to apply to.

All PharmD students begin as PD1s unless they began a PharmD program elsewhere already. You have to start at the beginning of the curriculum.

I'm just a bit confused or tired or both, but are you saying you've never taken English 101 but you have a Master's?

Generally if you got a Bachelor's you would have had to have taken some sort of English class... I thought that was a universal requirement for a US school regardless of major. A lot of schools will wave the time limit on prereqs if you earned a degree. As was said already, you'd probably want to talk to the school you are interested in.

EDIT:

Ah... you are an international student. I have no knowledge of that process. Contact the school you want to go to and ask them.

This is definitely school specific and even more so, since you are an international student. Definitely contact the schools you may be interested in.

As for what year you will start: you will start first year, just like everyone else. While graduate degree will certainly be advantageous in providing you with stronger science background, during your first year, you already take pharmacy specific courses that are pertinent to your degree and aren't taught elsewhere.

I am still kind of confused.

So I will have to take the prereqs, then I will start pharmD as a 1st year student. So the typical pharmD students are admitted are usually 3rd/4th year undergrad students who have taken all prereqs i imagine?

No matter what degree you have, you'll start out as a P1 unless you are already a pharmacy student at another school. Many people apply to pharmacy school without a degree, but the trend is moving towards applicants holding degrees.

Yes, typically they are, but it depends on the school - some schools require a BA/BS degree unofficially, like at my school 99 % of people have a BS/BA and about 10 % of the class has a graduate degree.

Having a graduate degree biology degree will not let you skip any years per se or enter as a P2. This is mostly because like I said you already start your pharmacy education and take pharmacy specific courses during your first year. However, you might be able to test out of a couple classes like advanced organic or clinical biochem. This will ease your schedule a bit.

Waiving pre-reqs will be school specific. Hope this helps. 🙂

Ah, thank you all very much 🙂 it has been all so very helpful and clear! Ty~
