Hey guys, I'm a junior right now, and I'm going to graduate undergrad with a GPA of around 3.3, with an MCAT of 29.

So here's my background. I'm a pretty great student, but did terrible (C/D) in my sophomore year, because of exploring with drugs and drinking. I messed Physics II, and my two Orgo's, but I redid them and got A's and a B.

I cleaned up my act and realize I want to be a doctor and realize my potential. I have a lot of shadowing (~100 hours) and lots of leadership experience (~1000 hours) coordinating programs (not medical). Research too, coauthor, and first author on one solid one (nutritional)

I'm planning on applying for medical school my senior year, then getting my master's in nutrition during my "gap year." I talked to the department head of nutrition, and he says that I should take two grad classes in undergrad for graduate credit, so that I can get my nutrition masters in one year.

I have a low GPA, and MCAT for MD, but if I show that junior/senior year, I got almost all A's, and I do a master's programs in nutrition with high marks, would I be able to get into a good MD school? Thanks guys.

Summary:
Freshman year - 3.8 GPA
Sophomore year - Around 2.0 GPA (But with retakes, more like 3.0 GPA now)
Took MCAT's, did maybe five hours of practice/studying - Got 29 (albeit, 12 verbal)
Junior Year - 3.8GPA
Senior Year - 3.8GPA (with two A's in Graduate level Nutrition)
Gap year - 36 Credit Masters, with honors.
Shadowing (lots), leadership experience (lots and lots), research (a solid amount), LOR's (strong)

Any good MD schools that are forgiving? Haha

there are some MD schools that look favorably on grad GPA, like Wayne State, EVMS, and Albany. Otherwise, chances for MD are rather low unfortunately. I would apply DO as well.

12 in VR is actually good because the other, science sections are far easier to improve.

You need to do a post bacc or SMP then apply. Doing a MS in nutrition while applying will do very little for your application. Unless you have amazing ECs or live in a non-competitive state (WV, AR, OK, etc) your chances at MD will be very low.

I am confused. Are you a junior or are you a graduate? Are those numbers you listed for junior year and beyond just hypothetical grades and a hypothetical honors?

edit: Also, why would you only study for 5 hours for the MCAT? That is not indicative of a "pretty great" student.

Unlikely. Not that rigorus and MS programs have problems with grade inflation.

You're fine for any DO program; your repeated courses have boosted your GPA via AACOMAS yardstick.

If you're keen on MD, then a SMP is what you need.
