WOW! Impressive. Thanks for that info!

nope we dont share chairs
another thing i like is that we dont move around to different clinics for different procedures, we do comprehensive care in a group practice model (10 juniors and 10 seniors each) - everyone has their own 3 walled cubicle/office, the only time I do treatment anywhere else (besides on rotation) is when I do endo 'cause there is only one cubicle per hallway that has an x-ray unit.

That's cool having your own chair..........cuz endoguy would steal my chair time sometimes! 🙄

so here's a question regarding getting into a specialty program:

Is research during dental school mandatory ?
OR is research non-dental done during college sufficient in order to get to tough oms and ortho specialty programs?

i would say you may have trouble getting an interview (at least for ortho) w/out dental school research. as far as getting through the program - you'd be fine - but you have to get IN first

Is a gunner someone who always smashes every test they take? Like no matter what the average is...the gunner gets an A, always. Atleast thats what we call gunner's at my school. I have also heard that someone people refer to people as gunners in a negative way! Anyways, more power to you Doggie...keep gunning 😉. What are your stats by the way, if you mind then its all good.

I dont have a definite answer.......but here's to give you some perspective.

*trying to sound as humble as I can* I think I got one of the highest grades in terms of boards and dental school among all the omfs applicants in my class. I did 1 big research gig in undergrad and 1 ok research gig in dental school.....no publications. Whereas there were applicants in my class who had decent boards (90+) and dental school grades BUT with a crap load of research gigs. Those people recieved way more interviews than I did.......even tho we applied to roughly the same number of schools.

Parkland X3? Parkland has 4 PYG1 spots, right? So three Columbia graduates are there together? Man, that's weird how that turned out. 3 out of 4 new interns are from the same school, very interesting.

Also, did Melodie who wants Ortho (who's always on her cell phone) from your class match?

I will be starting denal school at Pacific next year and I have absolutely no idea what match is. Does it mean your stats have to match the requirements/desires of the post graduate program you are applying to? Can someone explain how this works? I know Pacific isn't a big specialty school, but the ooportunity would be nice if it arises. What happens if you want to go into a certain specialty, say perio, but you don't get in? Can you apply somewhere as a backup? or do youhave to do a GPR or AEGD or soemthing. Just a little confused, thanks a lot.

Also, if a position goes unmatched as you guys have said, does that mena anyone can apply there or what?

Search under 'Match'.....its been talked about quite a few times here. It takes a while to explain so Im sure the people who know how to explain it to you will refer you to those anyways...
