Matched but the program lost accreditation

A friend matched into IM program. Program emailed that they accreditation and we all should explore positions. They said, funding is approved and will be moved to my new program.

Is this true? How would this work? Will any program be happy that they're getting a free resident slot and willing to accept new resident?
