I have just completed first yr in Med school in India where we covered Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry.
This yr we're gonna do Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine.
Having said so I'm also gonna start preparing for my Step1.

Can someone gimme an idea as to what are te minimum required Step1 scores for residencies like:

1.Surgery

2.Anaesthesiology

3.Cardiology

4.Radiology

5.Opthamology

6.Gastroenterology

I know that it differs from state to state and year to year . But it would definitely do if someone gave me a more or less general idea on this.

I would add 10-15 points on USMLE step one when compared to what a US grad would need, since you willl be considered an IMG.

Highly Competetive: dont apply below 225 score

Radiology
Opthamology

Competetive: 217+ will do

Anaesthesiology


Least Competetive: 215+ score will do


Surgery
Cardiology
Gastroenterology

remember cardio and GI are post-IM fellowship, so you have to find a decent IM first. after that usmle scores are not important anymore and all depends on how well you do on IM. as to the competitive specialties, you really have to get exceptional cores on both step 1 & 2. for step 1, usually >245 is considered exceptional b/c most PD solely use usmle score to judge IMGs since they don't have other objective standards to compare you w/ other US kids. Since there are so many Indian Doc practice in every fields of medicine in US, you should have pretty good chance if you do well on steps. Maybe I'll have a chance to meet you during residency. 1.Surgery -------- >230

2.Anaesthesiology ----------- >225

3.Cardiology --------- (good IM program) ---------- >220

4.Radiology ------------ >250

5.Opthamology ------------- >250

6.Gastroenterology -------- (great IM program) ------------ >230
