Material Testing Frequency

Just curious. How often do your undergraduate institutions test you on the material? Do most of your classes give content-heavy exams or weekly quizzes? Which do you like better?

Most of my profs give weekly quizzes. Obviously not a lot of material, but when you're taking a lot of science/math courses a weekly/biweekly quiz for each class get's a bit annoying.

Usually I had 1 or 2 midterms and a final in most of my undergrad classes. I did have some classes with weekly testing and actually I appreciated that more. With frequent quizzes I had less material tested, I was forced to keep up with the class, and I didn't have to worry about getting multiple large exams on the same day.

We typically have 3 tests and a final. Some classes had quizzes sprinkled in there

Depends on the professor. Some give quizzes every 2 weeks or every other class, others not.

Tests are a lot fewer compared to high school.

For example, Calculus is only 4 tests during the semester, along with Biology. Chemistry is 5.

My Bio class has an assessment quiz at the end of each lecture, with no more than three questions on each. To make it even better, they're 13% of your final grade.

I've started watching and working through the lessons ahead of time so by the time I get to class, I've seen the material multiple times and the pop quizzes at the end of the class are much easier as a result. My other courses don't test nearly as frequently.

My classes usually had 2 midterms and a final and most quizzes were given in lab classes. I had classes that were mostly quiz based and I hated it since I prefer gigantic but irregular study sessions over regular studying.

For the majority of my classes it was either 1 or 2 midterms and then a final (quarter system, so classes are only 10 weeks).

For some lower division classes (mostly math and physics) there were weekly quizzes and sometimes even homework. However, in most cases they totaled to less than 15-20% of your final grade.

For pre-med related science courses and other introductory courses, 1-2 midterms and a final were standard, with lab counting as much as ~1 midterm, when applicable. For seminar classes, grades were mostly based on participation and a final paper.
