On Test 1, problem 39....The standard deviation question...
My answer is closer to C. 1.7.
The book's solution has B. 1.4 for the answer.

In their solution, they have [4+1+0+1+4]/5=2 equals variance and
the standard deviation is square root 2 equaling approx 1.4.

Isn't the denominator supposed to be n-1?
I came to [4+1+0+1+4]/[5-1] approximate equaling 1.6

Did anyone else notice this or am I wrong?

you use n-1 when its std dev of a sample.

here they are asking merely for std dev of a population.

I think they would've thrown in that its a sample set od data if they wanted to find the std dev of a sample. so then you would use n-1.

I hated stats. I learned nothing in that class but to manipulate numbers to my liking.
