Math Prerequisites

Are any of you applying or planning to apply to pod school without taking any math beyond college algebra? I haven't seen any mention of math requirements for pod schools, but would it increase chances of getting in by taking pre calc or trig at least?

I don't think it'll help your chances on admission, but for MY school, trig/pre-calc. is a pre-req. for General Physics--algebra/trig based (which I'm taking now)......Calc 2 is required for University Physics (calc. based--engineering majors)..Not that you couldn't take physics w/o it, the extra math just makes the "flow" easier for me, and I don't seem as "lost" as the other students in my class, who did poorly in math.....

i thought the math for non majors at my university helped alot for classes like physics... i took the business calc too

dont really think you would use it in pod school, but nothing wrong with knowing stuff for the future

one thing in hindsight i wish i wouldve taken in undergrad is more business classes (finance, marketing, accounting, etc.) ....wouldve really helped come time when i get out of pod school and have to make alot of decisions for myself. Remember that medicine is only half the battle in private practice. These days I subscribe to Business Week magazine and a few other newspapers to try and gain an insight to the business scope.

You are applying to podiatry school, not engineer school. I agree with everyone that the students with strong math skills were good in physics. However, the podiatry home page does not list any math classes as required or even highly recommended. If you have not taken physics yet, take at least pre-cal II (trig based) to help you out with vectors and what not. If you have taken physics and still only have college algebra, adding math classes won't improve your odds. Get the BS degree, complete the application pre-req classes, take MCAT, and apply. A higher MCAT score will be 1000x more beneficial to you getting into the program you really want than pre-cal or Cal appearing on your transcript. Good luck!
