well, Q 113 destroyer: consider a rectangle with the length of 20" and width of 10" . if the length and width of this rectangle is increased by 20% what is the percent of increase of the area?
the answer: thr student will note that the actual dimention of the rectangle are immaterial, so answer is (1.2)(1.2)(100)=44%
Kaplan: if each side of square garden is increased by 50%, by what percent is the area of the garden increased?
I thought the answer should be (1.5)(1.5)(100)=225%, but Kaplan's answer is 125%
(10)(10)=100
(15)(15)=225
225-100=125%
plz, any body knows what I am missing? what is the difference between these two Q.? thnx guys

Destroyer asked "what is the percent of increase." it was 44%
Kaplan asked the same thing and it is 125%

Your math is messed up in that you have it labeled

(1.2)(1.2)(100) = 44% when it is actually 144% Since it asked for the increase you subtract the original 100 and get your final answer of 44%

The answer would be 225% for Kaplan if it asked what is the new area, but it asks for the increase which is 225-100 = 125%
