What is the best way to go about doing the following division: 0.550/204.2

The answer choices present included
b) 2.693 x 10-3
c) 2.693 x 10-2

Needless to say, I got it wrong b/c I could figure out how to do the question without being able to plug the above into my calculator.

55 x 10^-2 / 20 x 10^1 that should do it. So more than 2, but less than 3. Then just subtract the exponents. (-2-1)

I turn everything big or small or weird into numbers I'm familiar with (like 55 and 20 in this case), then just add or subtract the exponents (or multiply for powers). It makes it very straight forward. Hope that helps.
