So when you all are doing secondaries, do you always write up to the limit of characters/words? I usually try to but there are some cases where I can say all I have to in 200 words as opposed to 250, you think that matters?

write what u need to write, read it over a couple of times, and get the hell out of there and get some sunshine, please. 😉

I always shot for a minimum of 85% of the limit. But it's better to clear and concise but short, as opposed to be longwinded with nothing else to say...

I hope not. I try to max mine out, too, but there has been one instance where I did not. My reasoning was that if I answered the question completely and there honestly wasn't any more I could add, then I would leave it at that. It's better to have a well-written essay, than one padded with unnecessary material and words, I think.

I typically do, but not on purpose. I overwrite everything trying to make it flow perfectly and as a result they end up long...typically have to shorten significantly.

What he said...When I started my AMCAS essay for instance this summer, I had three single spaced pages (well over twice the character limit). I ended up getting it down to around 5150 after cutting out a bunch of stuff. Same thing with all of my secondary essays. The really hard ones to figure out though (IMHO) are the ones without character limits like Temple's.
