Hello, I have a question about maxing out stafford loans. Going into med school I will have 81k in stafford loans. So if I max out my stafford loans each yr at the annual max of 40,500, I will only have around 20k left in stafford loans when I start MS-4 before I hit the 224k lifetime max. Once I use this 20k up in fourth year and hit the 224k max, can I use grad plus to cover the difference or will I be ineligible for grad plus since I've hit the lifetime maximum? Thx

I like finaid.org as a starting point for info. Here's their page w/fed student loan limits, per-year and aggregate: http://www.finaid.org/loans/studentloan.phtml. If you search the page for "medical" or "health" you'll find the relevant bits.

Stafford limits for health professions are $40,500 per year, $224k aggregate max.

Grad Plus is managed entirely separately from Stafford. The yearly limit on Grad Plus is your cost of attendance minus other aid received. There is no aggregate limit on Grad Plus.

Best of luck to you.
