So I am registered to take the MCAT on May 27 and I was wondering if anyone thought this was too late. I am not applying early decision but I would like to get my application in as early as possible for regular decision. I want to have everything done and submitted (except for my MCAT of course) by June 1st. Would not having my MCAT scores on the 1st hinder my application status? Will some schools still send secondaries without a score? Thanks!

Agree with above. I also took the July 2nd test and am doing fine. Apply to one school to get verified and you are set. May 27 is early/perfect.

Remember, the biggest hindrance to getting your application polished in a timely fashion is recommendation letters. Hit up your profs now, and ensure that the letters get uploaded into AMCAS. Also make sure they print them on letterhead, sign them, scan them, and then upload them as a pdf. You don't want to get a letter kicked back because it isn't on letterhead (only one school cared about this for me, but it is reason enough to get it right from the start).

And yes, some schools send secondaries without scores.

What does it mean to apply to one school to get verified? Thanks for the help.

It has been a while since I completed my AMCAS, but I will try to explain it using the OP as an example. In the scenario of the OP, he will be in "limbo", so to speak. He will have taken the MCAT, but does not have scores. What does he do?

He will submit all transcripts to AMCAS, write his personal statement, etc., and he will have a 1 month window before his scores are released. His job during that month is to get his application submitted and verified. Actually, in May or June he has a good chance of a quick turnaround time. This way his scores will just appear in his completed online app the day they are released, and there will be no lag time. If memory serves me, he will have to pick at least one school for his application to be verified. This is what I did. I applied to one school without knowing my scores and then added to the list once the scores were released.

It really will be self-explanatory once you start filling out the paperwork. The system will direct what you need to do and when you need to do it. It really is pretty painless. Again, the worst part is hounding your letter writers. You have to get ID codes for the writers, and they have to physically log in and upload the letters. It is also not that difficult, but it is the one part of the process that is kind of out of your control. You will figure out the rest.

You will get email alerts notifying you that transcripts were received, and if you have any questions you can call 202-828-0600. Its not that bad.
