Well guys, step one is over, the waiting, the crying, the rank emails, the hold emails, and for the lucky few, the acceptances...

now the waiting begins, and so i fugured i would mark this changing point with the new thread, seeing as though the other one is about to pop 😀

good luck to everyone still waiting (including me) and congrats to those who already got the good news...

There is a thread in the allo forums for acceptees who are planning to matriculate.

This thread is for post-interview hold/waitlist candidates praying that somehow we don't receive the inevitable rejection letter within the next couple weeks... :luck: :luck:
 
so the last couple posts on the old Mayo 2007 were about people getting their rejection/hold letters... but we still dont know how those came... by mail? email? telegram? telepathy?

Did the old thread get closed down? For those "on hold" anyone hear about gettting on the waitlist?
 
I don't think they have sent out any decisions yet for waitlist or rejection letters. I think the previous posters were just talking of the hold letters they received electronically.

so guys. it is the end of the week
did anyone get the call today?
 
When I interviewed, I distinctly remember them saying that March 15th would be the last day where they fill the acceptances, before the waitlisting and rejecting begins.

So I'm going to hold on to the belief that they didn't lie to me when I was in Rochester 😀
 
but, its been mentioned a few times now that this was the last week for regular MD spots.

I was wondering if anybody knows what Mayo's policy is on deferring acceptance. Do they usually allow anybody to defer or only special cases?

I didn't have the balls to ask this at any of my interviews haha. But from my outside knowledge (I almost applied to Teach for America) they did not offer deferrals for that? Therefore, I am not sure if they allow them? Maybe under REALLY strict circumstances. Maybe.

I remember hearing at my interview that they already had 2 people defer this year, so they didn't want anybody else to.
 
I was told by one of their MS1's who deferred to go to Germany, that it was really easy to defer... anecdotal.
 
I tried to call Jane but it went to her answering machine.
 
So I'm kind of bummed after finding out that I wasn't getting into Harvard today, and I was just wondering why people haven't been anticipating the Mayo D-Day tomorrow with a little more anticipation?? Does anyone know if we should expect to get an email or a snail mail letter, or what is happening tomorrow??

harvard and mayo are real tough schools to get in...to even get interviews at schools like that is quite an accomplishment so dont be bummed, even though i know how it is to not get into the school you wanted if you have an acceptance your going to be a doctor still...just try and think when you were at the point of hoping to get into a medschool period, so maybe the position your in now will seem much brighter 😛

Based on last year's Mayo thread, alternates are notified by email, rejections by snail mail only.
 
Do you know if anyone got accepted at this point last year or is tomorrow simply a difference between waitlist and rejection??

Looks like last year the deadline was officially pushed from the 15th to the 31st but then notifications went out early on the 27/28th? Someone should call tomorrow as the adcoms may be running behind.

I was in the admissions office on Monday; they aren't behind.
 
I asked Jane that, and she sort of smiled and said she couldn't say...Later I was talking to the med students and they told me they had all seen the list and the class was full. But who knows, maybe they were confused or mixed up about it?

The class is too small to have a ranked waitlist and still end up with a very diverse group. From what I was told, if someone withdraws their spot, they look for a similar applicant to fill their spot. So if there are any older female applicants considering withdrawing...

As I am just sitting around waiting for a reaction to finish and would rather not see you guys fret all evening, I called, specially asking when the alternate list email would go out. The word? "Probably going out tomorrow. They're working on them right now."

I was away from my computer for the last few hours and I was stressing about the emails. Thanks for calling.
 
Alternate list email came in this morning at 10:09am EST.
 
Alright gotta ask: How many people does Mayo traditionally alternate list, and how many alternate positions are traditionally offered?

yet another alternate list, hey better than a rejection so i'll take it! i don't think they should have more than 40 people on the alternate list, right?
 
I was rejected, which is okay. I'm going to California and I am really happy about all of the choices I had. I feel wonderful that they were even considering me at all, and that I got to visit the world famous Mayo clinic.

Good luck to everyone waiting on the alternate list!
