Has anyone who took the August 2006 MCAT heard from Mayo yet? I sent my fee in sometime in September, so I now I am patiently waiting to hear if I will be granted a phone interview.

Well, the phone interview is done! I have mixed feelings, I definitely rambled a lot in the beginning. I had to do the last 10 questions in 5 mins!!! But the interviewer (Jane?) said it was her fault for not telling me to go faster because she was enjoying listening to my answers so much. I also got her to laugh twice, yay! She said I did well on the last few even though they were very rushed, so I guess that's good? Who knows, I guess I'll know for sure in 7-10 days!

To add my two cents - I'm disappointed that Mayo doesn't accept international students. I was very much looking forward to applying there; it was my number one choice!
Seems overall like a great institution. I wish you guys all luck.

JUST got a vague email from them:

Congratulations on your accomplishments which qualified you to be one of a select few students to interview at Mayo Medical School and thank you for your participation in the on-campus interviews. We are very appreciative of your time and willingness to visit Rochester, Minnesota.

The Admissions Committee recently reviewed and discussed your application. Your committee rank has been determined and will be considered when appointments are made to the class entering in 2007. We will continue to update you with any activity taken on your application.

I appreciate your patience during this process, and again thank you for your interest in Mayo Medical School. If you should have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

okay, so lets review...they rank on the last thurs of the month, then offer appointments on the 15th of the next month right?

I'm about ready to have a panic attack. I love this school.

They sent me that too. I think its standard.

anyone got any updates lately?

i got an email recently where they said that my application is currently going to be looked over periodically as assignments to the class are made since my rank has already been determined...

does the hold mean that we won't be considered until March or whatever, or do we still get consideration every month from now until then?

from what I heard we get reviewed every month still...being "on hold" means that they didnt accept you initially but will still be looking at your application periodically throughout the year- most of the ppl that hosted me said they were initially on hold but then got accepted as the year went on...i guess let's keep our fingers crossed...

Ok, that's what I thought,,,I am glad then,,,still a chance!

I met several people who had gotten accepted off the hold list - hang in there guys! :luck:

I got ranked today. Looks like they rank on Thursdays and send out appointment notifications at the end of the month?

Gosh end of Nov is so far away.

Hey y'alls. I just rescheduled my phone interview with cindy for 12/19, which is a bit late, but ah well. And then I had to write an email because I'd given them the wrong phone number (00 instead of 011 at the beginning of an international call). I just was wondering how competitive it is to get a phone interview? I am pretty psyched about making it this far, but I have no idea what it really means, you know?

I think it's pretty tough competition to get the phone interview (they've rejected quite a few very competitive apps pre-sec).

At any rate, had my phone interview on Thursday. Yeah.... not thinking I did very well on that one. Oh well...

When they say they'll notify you 7-10 after the phone interview, do they mean 7-10 normal days or 7-10 buisness days?

sorry to be obsessive, but I interviewed last thursday and I'm starting to freak out a little :scared:

It seems like a lot of people heard back a total of 14 days from the date of their phone interview, so it must be buisness days.

Got a rejection email this morning without even a phone interview. I had a very strong, service oriented application with a 34Q MCAT. Congratulations to people who are even getting a phone interview.

For those of us who have been ranked - how are you doing? I can't believe we have to wait almost a month before there is any verdict...

Hmm I didn't get a ranking yet (even 11/2), though I have already interviewed... wonder if my application missed that meeting?

Has it been more than 2 weeks? I'd hang tight. Relax - everyone who interviews gets ranked. Now where we all fall on that rank (and is that above the cut off for acceptance) is the question that drives us crazy...

I was under the impression they hand out acceptances at the middle of the month, aroudn the 15th. That's what they did on the month of October. So I was guessing November 15th would be when they'd hand out a few more acceptances.

regardless, yes, the waiting is killer.

No 😀, I guess patience is a virtue, like you said, waiting is the fun part. If I got an acceptance at Mayo then I'd go ahead and throw in the towel for all my other applications at this point. Mayo looks good on paper, but I was really blown away and swayed by Mayo when I went there in person - it has easily jumped to my top pick of medical schools. The good news is that we're all early in the running. I think Jane mentioned that there have only been 2 or 3 acceptances handed out so far out of the 34 seats available.

But they definitely do not mind international patients visiting them.

42 seats total with 2 acceptances so far.

15th would be excellent.

Questions for those with experience:

How long from my "payment receipt" notification until I should give up realistic hope of a phone pre-interview?

I understand things are probably a little slower now, but how long for y'all?

I think I got the 34 from normalization after MD/PhD's were taken out and maybe some other special seats... I think that was what Jane said, but anyways I could be wrong - let's hope I am - more seats for us!

unfortunately, I believe the 34 number is right. There are 6 md/phds and 2 dds/mds (oral surgery).

yeah that sounds right...

so about how long after an onsite interview should you expect to be ranked? do they wait until the end of each month to discuss each interviewee and rank? surely not, that would take forever and it would seem that the interviewer would have the chance to forget details of the conversation (even though interviewers take notes) but what do i know....and is the consensus that they give acceptances out on the 15th of each month?

I was just saying there are 42 total seats in the class. The ranking took about two weeks in my case.

Got my on site interview invite today!

YIPEEEEEEEEE!!!😀 😀 😀

Thanks Y_Marker and Eazye! Does anyone know when orientation starts? I haven't taken biochemistry, and I'm now considering the possibility (however slim) that I might need to take it the summer before med school for Mayo.

I don't have the exact date in front of me but I do remember they start early - I'd anticipate July

For the class of 2010, our orientation started on July 24th. If they keep that consistent for the upcoming school year, you could expect to start on July 23rd.

I had my telephone interview last Thursday (11/2) and was told that I will receive a decision in three weeks about an on-site interview. From what I can tell, Mayo places an emphasis on a whole person.

The waiting is quite nerveracking since on the same day I received a letter from UCSF that started: "Unfortunately....." UCSF managed 4-5 more paragraphs of writing, but who really cares about abstract wellwishing that one can get without much effort elsewhere.

The tough part is not the interviews that are given, but the early rejections. One starts to question if the decision of one institution is correlated with decisions at other institutions. Mayo is my top choice as a whole institution and I hope to make it in.

Background about myself:
38Q MCAT
approx 3.7 GPA Total, 3.8 GPA Science
BS Mathematics in 2000 and currently in a career changing post-bacc program

Dude, don't be down about the UCSF rejection, esp if you're OOS. I'm IS, got rejected post-secondary, but got an onsite interview at Mayo. Keep your head up, and good luck!

anyone heard anything from mayo lately?...any idea if they have already sent out more acceptances or when they will be doing so?

how quick do the pre secondary invites/ rejections come in? I took the August MCAT (second time, verified 9/23 ), and havent heard anything from them yet? Is there still hope?

this question has probably been asked before --

what was the phone interview like? i hear the questions are the same for everybody?

i have mine this week and would definitely appreciate any input about what to expect.

thanks!

The phone interview is all just behavioral. To summarize some of the advice on this thread: be relaxed, be yourself, don't overprepare.

As for hearing anything from Mayo lately -- I feel like I heard either on the day of my interview or another time, that the middle of the month is when they hand out acceptances. That means sometime around now? eeek!
