Has anyone who took the August 2006 MCAT heard from Mayo yet? I sent my fee in sometime in September, so I now I am patiently waiting to hear if I will be granted a phone interview.

JUST got a vague email from them:

Congratulations on your accomplishments which qualified you to be one of a select few students to interview at Mayo Medical School and thank you for your participation in the on-campus interviews. We are very appreciative of your time and willingness to visit Rochester, Minnesota.
The Admissions Committee recently reviewed and discussed your application. Your committee rank has been determined and will be considered when appointments are made to the class entering in 2007. We will continue to update you with any activity taken on your application.
I appreciate your patience during this process, and again thank you for your interest in Mayo Medical School. If you should have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.
okay, so lets review...they rank on the last thurs of the month, then offer appointments on the 15th of the next month right?
I'm about ready to have a panic attack. I love this school.
from what I heard we get reviewed every month still...being "on hold" means that they didnt accept you initially but will still be looking at your application periodically throughout the year- most of the ppl that hosted me said they were initially on hold but then got accepted as the year went on...i guess let's keep our fingers crossed...

I got ranked today. Looks like they rank on Thursdays and send out appointment notifications at the end of the month?
Gosh end of Nov is so far away.
Hmm I didn't get a ranking yet (even 11/2), though I have already interviewed... wonder if my application missed that meeting?
Has it been more than 2 weeks? I'd hang tight. Relax - everyone who interviews gets ranked. Now where we all fall on that rank (and is that above the cut off for acceptance) is the question that drives us crazy...
To add my two cents - I'm disappointed that Mayo doesn't accept international students. I was very much looking forward to applying there; it was my number one choice!
Seems overall like a great institution. I wish you guys all luck.
No 😀, I guess patience is a virtue, like you said, waiting is the fun part. If I got an acceptance at Mayo then I'd go ahead and throw in the towel for all my other applications at this point. Mayo looks good on paper, but I was really blown away and swayed by Mayo when I went there in person - it has easily jumped to my top pick of medical schools. The good news is that we're all early in the running. I think Jane mentioned that there have only been 2 or 3 acceptances handed out so far out of the 34 seats available.
I was under the impression they hand out acceptances at the middle of the month, aroudn the 15th. That's what they did on the month of October. So I was guessing November 15th would be when they'd hand out a few more acceptances.
regardless, yes, the waiting is killer.
42 seats total with 2 acceptances so far.
unfortunately, I believe the 34 number is right. There are 6 md/phds and 2 dds/mds (oral surgery).I think I got the 34 from normalization after MD/PhD's were taken out and maybe some other special seats... I think that was what Jane said, but anyways I could be wrong - let's hope I am - more seats for us!

Thanks Y_Marker and Eazye! Does anyone know when orientation starts? I haven't taken biochemistry, and I'm now considering the possibility (however slim) that I might need to take it the summer before med school for Mayo.
I had my telephone interview last Thursday (11/2) and was told that I will receive a decision in three weeks about an on-site interview. From what I can tell, Mayo places an emphasis on a whole person.
The waiting is quite nerveracking since on the same day I received a letter from UCSF that started: "Unfortunately....." UCSF managed 4-5 more paragraphs of writing, but who really cares about abstract wellwishing that one can get without much effort elsewhere.
The tough part is not the interviews that are given, but the early rejections. One starts to question if the decision of one institution is correlated with decisions at other institutions. Mayo is my top choice as a whole institution and I hope to make it in.
Background about myself:
38Q MCAT
approx 3.7 GPA Total, 3.8 GPA Science
BS Mathematics in 2000 and currently in a career changing post-bacc program
The phone interview is all just behavioral. To summarize some of the advice on this thread: be relaxed, be yourself, don't overprepare.this question has probably been asked before --
what was the phone interview like? i hear the questions are the same for everybody?
i have mine this week and would definitely appreciate any input about what to expect.
thanks!
