i was wondering the same thing. i interviewe over a month ago and havent heard anything. i am getting anxious
 
I ranked 2 days ago, I interviewed October 27... they are behind - I wonder when their next round of acceptences are? Fingers crossed that I can get in... 6 acceptances so far (I can't complain), but something in me just clicks for Mayo and none of the others, I mean I was having a dream yesterday that I got a Fedexed acceptance letter from them and was so excited because I felt that I could stop worrying what option I had to take other than Mayo, but I was skeptical even in the dream... as you can see I love the waiting game 😀
 
6 acceptances? I feel they're really holding back on handing them out for a bit...hopefully the floodgates will open soon!

yeah lets hope. this waiting game is killing me...at this point i would be content with getting a ranked email. i guess it is safe to assume that since i havent been ranked i wont be considered for this months admissions. i guess i will be waiting until next year

Wow, when I interviewed on Nov 27 they said they were only 40 people behind but I guess not. I guess I have another month of waiting 🙁

I know what you mean about Mayo feeling special. The people, place, philosophy, it is all so unique. My grandmother said she feels it in her bones that I am meant to go there, but she has osteoporosis so I am not sure how accurate he bones are. 😉

I loooooooooooovved Mayo when I interviewed! I really could see myself fitting in there, but I'm going to try not to get my hopes up. 36 spots is just so little! ah!

what is the hold email? i thought there was a ranked email and then they offer appointments each month based on that. so basically everyone is kinda on hold.

4:10 pm -- HOLD email. This is what it says for people who are curious:

Dear applicant:

On behalf of our Admissions Committee, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit Mayo Medical School and grant us the opportunity to meet with you and discuss your future career in medicine. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed your time at our school.

Your application is currently on a hold status. The Admissions Committee will continue to periodically review all of our ranked applicants until all interviews are completed. We assure you that you will be notified as soon as action is taken on your application.

We thank you for your patience with this process, and please notify us of any changes in your address.

So what I am wondering is whether people get rejected post-interview at Mayo? Or does Mayo just puts people on hold (who have a VERY low rank post-interview) and then reject them after they fill their class? Does anyone know?

Jane said that they will fill the class by mid-march. then they will waitlist 60 people and then reject the rest. oh and i am pretty sure the waitlist is a pool of 60 people not ranked.

yeah me either, that is why i was thrown off by the fact of the hold email. maybe it is jsut a way for them to keep in touch and let you know your status and that you are still being reviewed.
 
everyone who interviews and isn't offered an acceptance immediately is put on hold. Post onsite interview rejections are only given on March 15th.
 
Okay, obvious question to all that received the hold email...when did you interview? Did you also receive the ranking email or just the hold?

to shed some light on the hold vs ranked distinction, here is an email jane wrote me from a while back when I hadn't heard from Mayo for a while, this was before I recieved the official "hold" email. On the mayo website, under "admissions" it says that they give you a hold email if after the first time the committee meets after u've already received a rank, you are not selected that month, then you keep getting reviewed. Here is what Jane told me a while ago:

"Thank you for your note, and for your continued interest in Mayo Medical School! We appreciate it!

Yes, you can assume your application is on "hold." This status will remain until an appointment is offered, or March 15th when all applicants will receive a status change. Appointments are made at any time during the month. I never really know when it will happen. We have 5 currently selected for the entering class, and everyone else who has interviewed and has been ranked is on "hold" status.

Hope all is well with you. I know this is a difficult waiting period for applicants. I don't mind you staying in contact!"

That email was from October, so I imagine more than 5 have been selected at this point. Also, the "status change" she talks about in the email is when people get one of the three: acceptance, rejection, waitlist. All these are different than hold.

Wow, I never thought I'd be analyzing this process to such detail...

interviewed first week of october, ranked email at the end of october, hold email today.
 
🙁 Got the "hold" email too, interviewed end of October, got ranked last week... now the waiting begins.
 
I wonder if they will do more ranking before the holiday season...
 
Just letting everyone know, when I interviewed the beginning of December, they said they still only had 5 seats filled.

That's some comfort... just hope they didn't give like 10 seats away today and put all the rest of us on hold
 
Is there no Mayo 2006 page...why can't I find it?
 
Phone Interview 8/24, Invite 9/15, On-site interview Early-Oct. Received hold email yesterday, 12/13. I think it is going to be a slow month from here on out for correspondence. I heard February is the month to look forward to. My friend who is a 2nd year said they hand out roughly 60% of their acceptances in mid to late Feb. They only accept three people every month. Those are just the inside stats I heard.

Best of luck to everyone. It is reassuring seeing I'm not the only one FREAKING OUT about this email string Mayo has been sending out.
 
So I interviewed a month ago, but I haven't been ranked yet. Every Thursday, I hope the stars align so that I get an email. 😳 Has anyone received the "ranked" email today? Good luck all! :luck:

So if I wasn't worried enough I re-read last years posts (yes I have no life), and only 2 SDNers were accepted outright, then 3 off the waitlist...

i think 5 overall SDN acceptances is pretty good!
 
Wondering if anyone else out there is in my shoes and still waiting to hear a decision regarding a phone interview. I sent my fee in in late Sept and it was received, but my file was on hold until my MCAT scores were released. Well those came Oct. 12 and I still am waiting to find out if I will receive a phone interview. I emailed the admissions office and they told me I will still in review. I am a MN resident, but am still not sure if that means you get a phone interview for sure, never heard a definitive answer. Oh well, gotta be patient.

No. I heard in past years MN residency pretty much assured you a phone interview, but definetly not this year. Most of my friends (MN residents) were not selected.
 
For those people wondering about timing, I interviewed in mid November and received my ranked e-mail today. Good luck everyone and here's to the waiting game!!
 
So has anyone on the SDN gotten into Mayo yet this year? Or do you know some one who has gotten in?

When do the admissions people call the accepted people? Daytime? Nightime? A particular day of the week? Trying to figure out how to set aside some relaxation time (times when I shouldn't feel obsessed with my phone). I interviewed a couple of weeks ago and still no news. 😱

This one girl who interviewed with me at mayo (10/16), found out the next week that she had been accepted to Mayo. She got the call at 8 am from Jane.

TennisGuru - So she was accepted and she interviewed with you? What have you heard? Did you get a hold or rank email? Curious to know what to expect as you are further ahead in this process than I am.

I interviewed with her, got the ranked email about a month ago and was put on hold yesterday.
 
Do you know anything about the girl who got in? I wonder how much better of a candidate she was than the rest of us.

Do you think it's a bad sign for initial acceptance if a couple of weeks have passed with no news?

I stayed with a host who said that majority of the class gets hold initially and then gets accepted off of the hold list. So dont worry if you haven't heard anything yet, or if you are put on hold. Personally, I think that getting into Mayo is a complete crapshoot: the adcom looks to build a cohesive group (since its only handful of kids that get in), where everyone contributes something different to the group. So, even if one has stellar grades and mcats, he/she might not get into Mayo, because they dont bring that "unique" dimension that adcom is looking for. Thats been my understanding of this process.

Now as to the girl who got in, I dont know her personally. The reason I knew she got in was because I saw her at my Penn interview and found that she had already been accepted. I was kind of surprised/bummed out since at that point, I hadn't even received my rank email. She also had interviewed at Wash U and Michigan. And she told me that except for Wash U, she had been accepted to every single school that she had interviewed at. So, I am sure she has spectacular numbers and was a top notch applicant.
 
Thanks for the advice. I guess I should relax. 😎 It's difficult not to turn into a total stresscase! I sure hope they take us in the end. A crapshoot is not an easy thing to go through when it feels like there's so much on the line. Ah well.

oh yea..thats very true. Since we're done with the interviews, there is really nothing we can do to help our situation now. I really thought I had a good shot at getting ot Mayo right after the interview because both my interviews went REALLY well. I still haven't felt the full effects of his hold email, because I am supposed to hear from UCSF this upcoming week. That coupled with 3 finals on the same day is taking up all the anxiety space in my brain! lets see how the die rolls...
 
Just landed a phone interview...hehe, few steps behind the rest of you but it feels damn good anyway 🙂

They must have just sent out a batch. I got one too!!! 😀 I applied late in the cycle (Oct. 15) and verified with in the last ~2 weeks, and this is the first sign of life from any school (beyond taking my money of course). Sorda late to send out emails... about midnight thier time.
 
congrats man!! good luck with the phone interview! any clue on how many people get screened at each step with Mayo?
