I am curious if anyone out there knows when Mayo will be sending out final decisions (i.e. accepted, waitlisted, or rejected). At the moment, I am not really sure what my status is, and I interviewed there back in October. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It should be soon...within the next few weeks. They completed all interviews this past week so the committee meetings will move much faster now. It's a good sign that you have not been rejected yet as they have already sent out many post-interview rejections. This means you are still on their rank list but just haven't made it to the top. Best of luck!

mpp,

thanks for the info. Do you know when they actually create their waitlist?

i hadnt heard anything for three months but i recently recieved a notice that i am now on 'hold' and that means either acceptance or waitist. check out the revised website for addtnl info:

Once they have accepted their full complement of 34 MD students they will then send everyone a letter asking whether or not you would like to be on the waitlist (basically they are just trying to get rid of those that are no longer interested in Mayo). Last year this did not happen until after April 15 but last year was a slow year for application processing so I'm not sure when the waitlist offer will go out. Then they will just swap people off the waitlist as some of the original 34 decide not to attend. However, I do believe they try to match the person leaving with a similar person from the waitlist. What I mean by this is they will try to have a Minnesotan replace a Minnesotan, a URM replace a URM, etc. I cannot guarantee they do this, but I'm fairly certain this is the case. (In case you have forgetten, the other 8 students (for a total of 42) are 6 MD/PhD and 2 dentists and they are considered in a totally different application pool). Some years they only accept 33 other years 35 but they try to get it even on 34 MD students.

Hey mpp,

You seem pretty in tune with the admissions process at Mayo. I know that Mayo conducts about 240 onsite interviews for the 34 MD spots you mentioned. How many of those are actually put on the waiting list at the end of the interviewing season (i.e. not rejected)? Thanks man!

That I don't know. But overall it generally takes about 80 offers to fill the class. So just interviewing you have about one chance in three. Now that some people have turned down their offers of acceptances (especially as the big names (Columbia, Yale, Harvard, etc.) start issuing their acceptances) and then taking out the people they rejected after interview your chances are probably closer to 1 in 2 if you interviewed long ago. Many people in my class were accepted quite late off the waitlist...May, June, etc. Keep waiting and keep your hopes up. Everything starts moving much faster as we get to the end of the application cycle and people start choosing their final school and dropping all those zillion and one acceptances they've been holding onto.
