As many of you know, (as my sig will also tell) Im going to a DO school. Due to a family member with Cancer, I took them up to their physician at the Mayo Clinic. It was my first time up there and I must say that I was in complete and utter amazment at the place. Especially the Gonda building. I went on a tour and saw a lot of the history about the Mayo brothers. As for the medical school, it seemed rather small (they have small class sizes) but they said that they have classes in many of the other buildings. Anyways, I just got back and figured I'd post about it and see if anyone else has been there, or perhaps had the privilege of interviewing there. Either way, it was VERY impressive.

Yeah, I went up there about 3 years ago when my SO's mom had heart surgery. The facilities were awesome. The town seemed very old, really safe, and was fun to explore. One of my friends from high school was doing her residency there at the time and I tried to find her but was unsuccessful. Mayo would be an amazing school to have the priviledge to attend.

I was talking to my cousin about the Mayo Clinic. His roommate in med school was a Yale undergraduate and went to the Mayo for an interview. The were grilling him on all the questions and basically humiliating and demoralizing him, and in the middle of the interview he says "F-this, I don't need this, you're schools isn't that good..." and walked out.

kid had some balls, i'm sure a lot of us would take the abuse for a shot at going to such a school. worked out ok for him, he went to hopkins

I find that very hard to believe.

Philadelphia👍.

😳

PCOM is great, but hardly a mecca. I mean a HUGE teaching hospital with research, a multitude of fellowships, and an academic focus etc. It would definitely add some 'street cred' to our profession.

This is where the AOA should be putting its emphasis... IMHO. Any thoughts?

Remember reading about a large osteopathic research center at TCOM... what is that like?

Sort of on topic.... but was talking with some residency reps from the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic and they were saying that they usually have a fair number of DOs in their residency programs. Just seemed to be very DO "friendly".

Maybe that will be true of AZ too. One can only hope right?

Their fellowships are also very DO friendly

The Mayo network is known for taking the best applicant whether USMD/DO/IMG/FMG, which is probably why the system is so well respected.

I spent 2 summers at the Mayo clinic doing research. It is such an awesome place!
