Mayo externship

If anyone who has externed at Mayo Clinic, Rochester(Minnesota) please pm me, I would really appreciate that.

Mayo has a policy that will not let anyone doing an externship to perform any surgery. It is a boring externship but depending on who you hang with then you may get to do something. Kademani let an extern perform a trach once but this is the exception rather than the norm. Contrary to popular belief, the residents perform most of the surgeries but those who extern do not do much.

Unless it's dentoalveloar, I think this is true at most programs. Maybe not official "policy" but not many residents/faculty get excited about handing the knife over to the extern for a Risdon approach. We used to let externs expose the mandible for fractures, until one extern buzzed right through the mental nerve...

Hmm. Sounds like the plastics residents and attendings at our hospital have been taking lessons from the externs at your hospital. Those wankers do that all the time. "Holy crap, the fracture pre-tore the mental nerve!!!" ... Yeah F@$#king right...

the last one I saw during fracture repair was a couple of years ago and it happened twice in 1 month to my then chief . it made for an embarassing M+M conference. 😱
