anybody feel liked they screwed up the phone interview. It makes me feel sad that I'm going to be the 100 people that they cut.

I am applying to Mayo also, but do not have my MCAT scores yet. Therefore my phone interview is hopefully in future. What was it like?Chankovsky said:anybody feel liked they screwed up the phone interview. It makes me feel sad that I'm going to be the 100 people that they cut.

loomis said:my interview last year was very quick...like 15 minutes...i answered yes/no and got to teh point for many of the questions. you can do a search in the archives to find some of the old questions! good luck...mayo is an awesome place to be a student at....
trouta said:You would be surprised how many people feel the same way you do about the phone interview. I felt that way as have many people that have ultimately interviewed here. I answered everything very off the cuff and felt like there was no way it could turn out good for me, but it did and Im here now. My feeling is that you cant really ace the thing. In fact, I would argue, reading the questions and prepping in advance might actually hurt you. The point of the whole thing is to get a sense of who you are, not who you can be. Sounding canned cant be a good thing in that regard. In any case, just wait and see, no sense worrying about something you cant change now (easy for me to say I know 😳 ).
bostonabe said:Once you receive the telephone interview, is getting the on-site interview wholly based on your responses, or are your credentials still being considered as a factor on whether or not to invite you to Rochester??
MDT said:I don't know for sure, but last year when they invited you for the phone interview they also asked you to send your letters of recommendation. So, I would guess your letters are evaluated along with the phone interview.
Reckoning said:So the two-week-post-phone-interview mark passed yesterday for me. Am I done? As in on runaway train to rejectionville? 😳
For those of you who are worried about your botched interview. I thought I did pretty well or at least articulated my philosophy well and it looks like I didn't make the cut. Like others have said how you feel about it doesn't have much bearing on their decision.
Good luck 👍
i77ac said:don't worry, i got notified for the onsite interview invite between 2-3 weeks after the phone interview, though they told me it would take about 2 weeks. so be patient and wait...
just to let you know, mayo is awesome. definitely worth checking out.
Reckoning said:Interview 10/12. Got the boot via snail mail 11/1. 🙁
If you get the invite it should come faster because it's emailed.
BTW, I thought my interview went well, but apparently they thought differently. Their reception is unpredictible from what I've read.
Good luck to you 👍

i77ac said:found out i was put on hold today... and i thought the interview went really really well. i loved mayo too. i'm a bit disappointed, but oh well.

bdt said:I'm jealous of you folks and your great interviews. Mayo was my first interview and I stumbled all over myself. I'm happy to have gotten the email telling me I'm on hold and not a letter in the mail saying I was rejected because I had trouble forming coherent sentences.
For me, Mayo is a looooooonnng shot. Still, I've got a shot even if it is a long one.
Good Luck to all on waitlists everywhere.
