They told me it's a Mayo program (meaning "the mayo way") in an affluent suburb of Phoenix. Nice area. Nice hospital. Patient population is not as diverse as many places - you gotta have MONEY or Mayo won't touch you with a 10 foot pole. Community program, and their typical applicant and resident pool is average to maybe below average. They told me they didn't think the Scottsdale training was as rigorous as our training was, and that the strength of the residents is lacking - and perhaps some of this is directly related to the "mayo way" and the way Mayo won't let residents have much responsibility. The ED is a joke - their opinion, not mine. Apparently the fellowship match is ok.
On balance, an OK program, but make sure your goals are clearly defined before going in so you don't get lost in the "meh".
