I know a lot of you are still waiting for the phone interview, and I really hope you get it. Is there anyone out there post phone interview who is still waiting for real interview invite? Just nervous and curious.

I just had my phone interview on Tuesday, the 23rd. I'm not getting worried from not hearing yet, but I'm really anxious. The lady interviewing me said (at the end of the interview) that I would know within 3 weeks. I asked how I would be notified. She said I should hope for an email, since they send rejections in ground mail. AHHHHHH!!! Even more afraid of the mailbox!

I'm also awaiting word (and anxious too!) for a real interview....or the alternative. I had my phone interview on Wed 8/24, I'm a CA resisident now, but lived in MN for 18 years and Mayo is my top choice (gee, I bet they haven't heard that one yet, huh?) well...I'm praying!

sorry to hear that..
i don't understand the formula they supposedly use, but i would guess that the reason people with good numbers get rejected pre-secondary is that they haven't shown enough dedication to service. like ucsf, mayo is extremely keen on how much of a potential to serve and lead you have. they seem to emphasize this more than other schools that i've seen or heard of, and i think it's because they don't want their students to stray too far from the reputation and tradition that mayo has built for itself, and that's largely based on selflessness rather than academics.

but i could also be wrong, too. i'm kind of speculating here.

best of luck to all you still waiting. just be patient and don't get too freaked out about any correspondence or lack thereof.

Don't worry. I don't remember where I read this, but I heard they only do evaluations every 6 weeks or something. I thought the last one was end of July, putting the next one at the beginning of Sept. I expect many of us will hear one way or the other in a couple weeks as to whether or not we get a phone interview.

SDN makes me nauseous. 🙂 My check was acknowledged 7/29 too, and I've been anticipating my rejection letter since people started hearing a couple weeks back... now that the second wave of phone invites seems to have started and I haven't heard, I'm guessing I can start harrassing the mailman again! Maybe if I just hit "refresh" on my email 7,000 times...

My check was received 8/3 and no word here either. (I know it is not the same day as everyone else, but they probably go in batches so my app could be in the same group) This probably means rejection, eh? We can always start a club of mayo rejects. 🙂

I'm confused, I called Mayo today and the person I talked to said we would receive an email once a decision has been made either way. Rejection or phone interview offer. Hopefully that person is correct and we still have a chance.

No email here- got a rejection via snail mail (not the prettiest letter) about a month after they received my check. I had the feeling a rejection was coming though when it took that long without a phone interview offer.

No worries...you're still in the running. They received my check 8/3 and I still haven't heard anything. I was afraid to check my mailbox last week, and I'm sure it will continue this week as well until I hear one way or another. I used to love getting mail personally addressed to me...but now med school has sucked the fun out of that. 🙁 Anyway, good luck!

I had my check acknowledged on 7/29 as well and haven't heard a peep out of them. Here's to 48 hours 'till rejection.

I'd check out the med school interview feedback page. There is one guy who posted almost every question I had been asked on my phone interview... very helpful stuff (I think; I'll update this when I receive my rejection this week). haha

Also for anyone who is curious and had their check acknowledged on 07/29...I called Mayo today and they told me that my file is still under review....so the 6 week time period is not concrete.

By the way, anyone look at the student profiles for Mayo....I don't know whether to keel over laughing at some of the descriptions or roll into a fetal position with fear.

I think it has something to do with how the FBI conducts interviews. High stress, make you wait and see how you react, all for the fun of it of course!!! They pro'oly track our IPs based on their huge database of school address networks and contact all the major ISPs and check your surfing habbits. They wind up here watching us all crack, and laughing. 😱

That's a scary thought!

Seriously, though, I am sure that it takes awhile because the people on the admissions committee probably have really busy lives with more important things to do than just sifting through applications and picking out the best. Also, it seems like everyone (on SDN at least) turned in their checks within a two-three week window, thus they probably were bombarded with applications.
This is what I tell myself so I can sleep at night while waiting for news. 😀

I think they are reviewing the files trying to see which student will allow them to come up with the best descriptions for their entering class, i.e. As bubbly as a shaken soda etc.
