I'm right there with you. . .

don't worry about it- they take forever- the only go over a few applicants every few weeks- because of the small class size they don't interview a lot of people- so being early with the phone interview is still great but be patient- you can still get the interview-
you can write a letter to the admin committee telling them about your continued interest if you're freaking out that much

Just checked my email and got an on-site interview invite at MAYO!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my god I'm like jumping up and down on my lab bench!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

Sorry; I had to share my exitement with someone!! I've been waiting for this invite for sooooooooooo long!?!?! I still can't believe it!!!!!!!!

My timeline:

Phone interview on: 9/1/05
Email invite: 9/21/05

Of course, this invite follows a "ON-HOLD" status at GW! How freaking random and arbitrary is this process?! sheesh! :meanie:

PM me if you have any questions. I still am in complete and utter shock!!! Good luck to all the rest of ya'all!!!!

Does good news come in groups? I just received an email inviting me for a phone interview! OMG I am so excited. Thought I would share with my fellow SDNers who have been giving me support through the long 7 weeks it took for them to review my file. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on news. :luck:

SuzeQ-

that's totally awesome!! congrats!!

Make sure you review the phone interview questions posted on SDN (almost everyone one of them is the same!)

The phone interview was tons of fun; kinda cool talking about things you stop talkign about after you leave college (like mortality, etc).

if you have any questions, pm me, and best of luck!!

Don't give up hope yet....you may get an email later this week or next week still. It took a full 7 weeks for them to respond to me. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks! You're so kind.

Study up on those phone questions SuzeQ!

You'll do great!

rejection in the mail.

It's been fun.

check request 8/3 acknowledged 8/9.

good luck!

im curious about how things happen after the phone interview..
once you are granted a phone interview, do numbers (GPA MCAT etc) still mean alot, or is it more based on your responses, and the letters of rec?
240 invited on-site for intervwing out of ~330 phone interviews seems like an odd ration (about 2/3), does anyone know what the basis of this cut is?

thanks everyone for your help.. i was expecting a straight rejection from mayo, and got the suprise phone interview invite, so now im strongly looking at mayo as a top choice..

I wondering this myself. Either way its gonna be really hard even after getting an actual interview because there are few spots.

I believe this was addressed on the web site.

I recall them stating that, upon invitation to the phone interview, the progresion to the actual interview is based in large part on one's performance during the phone interview.

Can anyone confirm this?

PS: I'm interviewing at Mayo on October 31st (Halloween!!). Anyone else going to be there? I'm also assuming that the amount of students at each interview session will be rather low (given that their class size is only 42). Anyone know how many exactly?

hey the interview sizes can get up to 10- but it's usually 3-4

basically if you do well and emphasize the values mayo has in the phone interview you'll get an interview- your chances are good of an onsite as long as you don't bomb the phone interview

Congrats Lexy! 👍

Can anyone tell me the current average time for notifying applicants post-phone interview? I've read from a few people here that it took a long time. When I asked at the end of my phone interview, two weeks was still the reported timeline for notification.

I'm at two weeks tomorrow. Should I be anticipating anthing, or do I still have a few weeks to wait? 😴 🙂

They told me 3 weeks and it actually took 2.5

Thanks! I guess I can slightly reduce the number of times per day I obsessively check my email - at least until Monday!

I was told I would hear last week-ish, but I still havent heard anything(Phone interview 9/20). I am awaiting my thin letter in the mail.

I figure expect the worst and if i get an interview its a bonus.

Jim

It took them around 3 weeks from my phone interview to give me an actual onsite one. Being from Rochester and growing up at the Mayo Clinic I can tell you that they look for the applicants that are as far away from the norm as possible. They also like to take care of their own (invites, summer internships, etc). I think that once you get a phone interview, your acceptance is based on your morals and values and not your numbers.

Wow...so many people who already have on-site interviews. Anyone like me and still waiting to do their phone interview? Mine isn't scheduled until October 26...so I've still got plenty of waiting ahead of me, but at least I've got a lot of other things to keep me busy in the meantime.

Congratulations to me...

I guess I'm the first post phone secondary reject... I wonder what went wrong? The odds were slightly in my favor for the onsite interview.

I guess it's time to say goodbye to Mayo and this thread... 🙁

Hey BDiesel. Sorry to hear about Mayo. I'm guessing that as time goes by the chances of a post-phone rejection get larger. (They probably pick those who they like the best the earliest.) I'm definitely sweating a bit as I wait to hear back from them. :scared:

Also, with the class being so small, its hard to get upset about a rejecting from Mayo. They are going to turn away TONS of very well qualified applicants, many without great reasons.

I'm sure you'll do just fine with your other apps! Good Luck! :luck:

Thanks for the encouragement, SailCrazy. It was just my first post-interview rejection, so for a few hours, it made me freak out about my interviewing skills.

Thinking about it, I don't think I did a good enough job convincing them why I wanted to go to Mayo. In the end, they probably did me a favor because I don't think I would be the happiest there.

Good luck to the rest of you who are still in the running!

I had my Mayo phone interview on the 5th. I stared at the phone for 40 minutes before it rang. *laughs*

Got my thin letter after getting back from work today. I thought the phone interview was somewhat awkward, so i was not very surprised. Goodluck everyone...

Sorry to hear it. I am still waiting for a response myself. It has been more than two weeks (phone call 9/28) so I don't know if I should be looking for that envelope or if they'll let me know this week. :scared:

My aunt & uncle who live in Rochester keep asking when I'll be there for a visit. I hope it is soon! 🙂

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!! WHOOO.....just got it tonight and phone interviewed on the 28th

Congratulations to both of you!! I've got my phone interview next week, so I'm sure you'll see me posting on here as I anxiously await a decision in the coming weeks. Patience is definitely not one of my strengths.

A question for you guys that received an on-site invitation. I just did my phone interview, it seemed kind of awkward with not knowing how much you shoul dsay for each question, etc, and little to no feedback. How did you feel immediately after the interview, were you optimistic, would you say there is anything you did during the interview that may have helped.

Cool and congrats

that was pretty much my same reaction. i didn't really feel optimistic after the interview. However, i am still waiting to hear from them. My phone interview was 10-7-05. Best of luck

Jane did mine (the REALLY nice secretary) and it was REALLY comfortable. I didn't look at the questions before and I really think that they can tell if you have "preplanned answers." I think the best approach is glance over them, think a little about waht your gonna say, and then say it. I know that between questions and my answers, I took alot of time to think, and I spoke very casually (in other words it didn't seem planned). On the mortality question Jane even said "you don't have to answer this." General consensus has been that their is little feedback and it is awkward so I wouldn't worry about that! Just think very carefully. Mayo looks for a certain type of student.
In summarY: don't memorize lines and recite, it'll probably be awkward, take your time after a question is answered to think of an answer, they REALLY don't like it when you just regurgitate stuff so it is ok to stutter/ say the wrong wor and take it back etc... I did that alot!
GOOD LUCK!

I'm interviewing on-site on Halloween! Have to stay in Rochester Monday night (no evening flights back to Boston!). Anyone else going to be there (and maybe want to do some trick-or-treating? 😀 )

How long did it take from your phone interview before you got your invitation to an actual interview? Its been two weeks for me and no word. is that a bad sign? did you hear back quickly if you got it and later if you got the thin envelope. I'm checking e-mail a zillion times.! help!

hehe don't sweat it fictional girl (nice name 🙂 )!

It took about 3.5/4 weeks between my phone interview and receiving the actual, email invitation for on-site interview.

Be patient (haha like I'm one to talk!), and best of luck! PM me if you have any questions

22 Days and counting for me. No thin envelope, no email... 😕 :scared:

Patience? HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE *ahem* sorry *HAHAHA*
Thats funny. I've developed an e-mail OCD. Because, of course, Mayo will send me an invitation at 3:05 in the morning. heh. Glad to hear that they don't stick to the 3 week deadline exactly (glad and sad... want to *twitch* know) I've developed an unnatural fear of my mailbox. It's possible that a thin letter may burn directly through my hand. I've started cursing my roommate for getting grad school information in the mailbox , because it comes in big thick packages and it gets me all excited, since I think they're mine. And I know mayo sends you info by e-mail and yet.... still... those packages mess with my poor little head. Whats that, Mayo? you're accepting me without an interview?!
oh gosh, you shouldn't have.... how sweet.... *curtsy*

I like your name too MesoCompound. As for mine, I figured the only way to keep any sense of dignity through this entire process was to be entirely made up. 🙂
That and I like to think I can write stories...... but more to keep the dignity, yeah, the dignity.

Meso, When is/was your interview? Isn't it funny to think that the people we're talking to now could be our classmates next year?

Hehe the name Meso derives from one simple thing: Mesocompounds were just about the ONLY freaking thing I understood / remembered from Organic Chemistry :meanie:

Aside from that, my interview is on Halloween (my absolute favorite holiday of the year!?!). I'm looking for someone to go trick-or-treating with in Rochseter, as I have to stay there Monday evening as well. I'll be sure to let ya'all know how it goes.

FIctional - where else have you interviewed at / will be interviewing at?

Meso, if only I could get an interview I'd be happy to go trick or treating with you! I have a great costume this year.... cheesy (quite literally, I'm going as a slice of swiss)... as always, but fun.
I've interviewed at Einstein and University of Wisconsin. Haven't heard back anywhere else. (and neither of them are rolling, way to keep a girl waiting till january!) How about you? did you also apply to your state school?

16 days since phone interview with a weekend coming up..... *sigh*..... I fear checking the mail.....*whimper*....

meso,
i'm sure some of us will be going out on monday night. we usually go to this place called whistle binkie's, which has mystery beer night on monday. if you don't drink, you could come out and meet the class as i'm sure there will be a lot of people trying to avoid pathology on halloween.

Ah shucks...we have an exam the next day! if not I would be there at WB...will be studying for PHARM...oh well have fun guys!
