What sort of career paths would be possible with a Pharm.D and an MBA? I have heard of a few students doing this.

and would this also be worth the extra year of classes?

If you plan on managing multiple pharmacies like a pharmacy supervisor or district manager for Walgreens/CVS then this would be very beneficial. It would be helpful if you knew how to read Profit/Loss statements and understood the basics of supply chain management. Truth be told though, you can do either of these with just your PharmD if you were promoted to pharmacy manager and did your job well.

Or, you can start and run your own business, there are lots of niches out there that the big retail pharmacies are not interested in covering. Having an MBA gives you the understanding of business necessary to run your own.

Is the workload much harder for a student earning an MBA and a PharmD than for one just earning the PharmD? I was under the impression that the MBA started out just like a minor in buisness and then you were able to take upper level classes...is this right?

Also, would it be better to go for the PharmD/MBA or the PharmD/J.D.? Does one have more job opportunities than the other?

MBA is a master in business, i don't think you take minor classes lol. In order to get in a real MBA school you have to take a test so its not just something they add on to your resume because it looks good or sounds good, its a real degree.

Sorry, I didn't articulate that right... I realize that it is a Masters.

However, the way that I understand the curriculum you begin this program by first going about it as if you were getting a minor in business before you can take the upper level classes required for the Masters. I believe this is how it is done at Butler University and Purdue (in Indiana). Is it like this elsewhere?

bump I am still trying to come to a decision

It would an extra years tuition if not more

not just master in business...business administration. lots of work involved.

You should do a search on MBA/PharmD. There's been a lot of topics involving dual degrees.
