MCAT 27 advice

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got my MCAT scores today. PS 11, BS 9, VR 7.
I really blew it on VR and WS K. English is my second language.
I graduated in 2007 B.S in Clinical Laboratory Science cGPA 3.69, with very decent science grades.
should I retake the MCAT or do I still have a chance for allopathic or osteopathic schools.
I have been working as a medical technologist for the past 5 years. I am originally from Egypt but apparently that does not make me a minority, and I do not wan to rely on that as well. I am 32 and married, not sure if any of these factors would weigh in.
thanks in advance

You have a good chance at DO schools assuming the rest of your app is strong.

thanks for the quick reply, there is a basic website that you plug in your numbers and it calculates how competitive. it shows that my scores are competitive for Howard and another allopathic school in AK. are those just too hopeful assumptions since my VR is low?

Those do not account other factors such as race, experience and many other things. Howard will give you a shot if you're a URM focused on social mission and primary care. AK has an extremely strong preference towards instate applicants and even then it's very complicated. AK works by accepting based on districts and state legislation so even if you're a resident its not a good prediction because if youre a resident of the upscale and competitive districts of AK then 27 will not suffice. I am not saying MD is impossible but it's going to be very very hard. DO schools are much more realistic.

You definitely have a chance at DO schools, even with the 7 in verbal. That being said, if you can improve your verbal score with some intense studying, I would still say it's worth retaking if you want a shot at allopathic schools.

I wouldn't rely only on those internet plug in number sites as they do not take into account out of state (OOS), community vs research oriented, friendly to non-trads, or those that cater toward URM.

Being 32 and married, do you have specific state you want to move to or remain in? I hear DO schools in the midwest tend to more non-trad and family friendly (anyone else care to give some insight?)
