So I am taking the MCAT August 3rd and I am not doing good on the practice tests. I really want to start med school in 2020, and I am doing an SMP this year at KCU. I have been averaging 495 with my most recent one a 491. My cGPA and sGPA are 3.51 with strong EC with several letters of recommendation. Any advice?? Should I wait a year or still try this year?

Did you take all the AAMC FLs? If so, you should wait until you are ready.

I have taken one of AAMC tests, I have been doing mostly NextStep and Princeton Review. the 491 was with AAMC

You’re going to need more time to prepare then. My friend took his MCAT the summer after his SMP and did well. He gives credit to the program for helping him. Take my advice with a grain of salt and wait to take it in early July. You can work on your personal Statement and secondaries now that way you can get that out the way.

Okay thank you very much. Can I still get secondaries if I haven't submitted an MCAT score?

You don't need SMP because your gpa is above avg. I would say concentrate on MCAT and at the same time do other volunteers or shadow. Why waste money on SMP? Once you start SMP you will not able to study for MCAT because SMP's are very fast pace. I have done SMP and telling from my own experience. The only advantage with SPM is that it will help you for MCAT but I won't waste $50k on SMP if you can use other resources for MCAT.

don't bother with smp. if your mcat is still around what you're scoring, that smp will not land you in medical school. save the tuition, focus all your time on mcat, find better study methods, because yours aren't working. your gpa clearly shows you can study hard enough and score well if you study smart and well.

MCAT needs to be above 500 to stand a shot.

Clearly you are lacking fundamental knowledge.
You need use Exam Krackers + Khan Academy videos - memorize that info for a couple months.
Then start taking practice exams for another month (at least 4-6).

To re-has what others have said, SMP is a no go for you - you have a 3.5 GPA.
You also have a <20th percentile or whatever MCAT.

Focus on that, which needs fixing.
