Due to personal reasons and time restriction, I want to take the MCAT soon (in 5 months). I still haven't taken ORGO, but have just about everything else. Is it possible to be prepared for the MCAT just by self studying the ORGO prep book? I have Examkrackers set, 7th edition. Has anyone done this? How and how long should it take? please advise.

It is possible, but not ideal. The MCAT is not (at least supposedly) as Orgo heavy as it once was. I had very little Orgo on my MCAT, but there is no guarantee that you may not get screwed by an Orgo heavy MCAT...EK is good!

Hey thanks for the reply. I guess it is doable but will be hard. I'll have to try anyway! I'm really worried about the MCAT. I'm 27, I have a BS in architecture. My GPA is 3.33 in college and I took 1 bio in college and 1 chem like 9 years ago. I got Cs so I decided to quit and went into architecture instead. Later in the summer I realized that the reasons I couldn't really study was because I couldn't understand English well and that I had a heart problem. Basically I was exhausted all the time + couldn't understand the teacher (I was on living in the US for 1.5 years before starting college). I graduated with Architecture, but my heart wants to become a doctor. Now I'm at a new start in life and I want to do well on the MCAT and at school.

I'm taking a few science class at CC and it looks like I'll get As in them. Now that I'm healthy and understand english well, school is not hard. Anyway, my problem is, because I failed before in college (got Cs) I'm scared to fail again on the MCAT. I've been really stressed out about it that I dream about the MCAT 3 nights in a row, and I'm only starting to study for it!!! I doubt myself a little bit, weather I'm really smart enough to become a doctor, etc. But I will try. It's better to try and fail than not to try at all, right?

I will get 4 AAMC tests. I have an Examkrackers set, the Audio Osmosis, and the Verbal 101 passage. Is that enough studying tools? Do I need anything else?

I just wanted to vent a little and share my worries. I guess other people are worried, too. Do share your worries with me.

I'm doing the exact same thing. I haven't taken ochem and am just taking chem II this semester.

Get the "Organic Chemistry for Dummies" and the associated workbook. It's a quick way to get the basic.

ExamKrakers OChem is too much of a summary to be useful for someone who hasn't taken ochem before.

Ideally, you'd want to have all your pre-req courses done before you take the MCAT. I think it is still doable if you put in the extra effort and time. You'll be fine.

I had very little orgo on my mcat and it'd been over a decade since taking any chem classes for me. The prep work can be enough.

And there's even less orgo in med school so I'm not sure why they even emphasize it on the mcat.
