I've been reading a lot of posts from students who have shown significant improvement on the MCAT having retested one year later or more from their first sitting.

How common is it for students to greatly improve on the test from April to August of the same year? Especially since there's really only 2 months or less between the scores being released in June and the August test date?

depends on why you didn't score as high. if you take a lot of practice tests and practice verbal every day, you can raise your score pretty significantly. helps to read a lot every day...nytimes, economist, new yorker, etc.

Do them over and over and over and over.

my score went up 4 points after about 2 months of intense studying. i took the test in august both times, but i did not study for the first 10 months in between.

3 of the points were on the PS section. it went from my worst section (9) to my best (12).

2 months is plenty of time if you are willing to work really hard.

I was able to get my scores from V-6 P-8 B-8 (22) to V-9 P-9 B-12(30) in between the April and August exam.

I can't really comment on improvement, but I can say that the MCATs can be done in an accelerated way. I only was able to study for 2 hours for around a month and a half, and I got a 38S. I was a sociology major, so background had little to do with it. Just grab the test by the balls, and study smart--practice is good too.

or you can do what i did and just study for 2 nights with the night before going to a party and drink till 4am in the morning.

and take the test with no sleep!

but for some reason...for you to show marked improvement...id say NOT to do this 😉
