MCAT in August

Hi. I know it is too late to take the MCAT in August for MD school but was just wondering if the same applies to DO school? Thanks.

Uh, I think "too late" is a phrase that only makes sense in reference to a specific personal context. Anyway, my thinking is that you should strive to be complete at the schools as early as reasonbly possible. This isn't tradition specific; it has to do with rolling admissions. Most medical schools operate with rolling admissions. Thus, it is toward your best interest to take the MCAT sooner rather than later, if possible and reasonable. Being complete late at medical schools with rolling admissions, which is most medical schools, you are potentially diminishing your chances as seats continue to fill.

It's not too late for MD schools or DO schools  Why don't you call the schools and ask them, like I did.

Do you realize that people have been taking the August MCAT and applying to med school the same year for over 10 years? Why would it now, all of a sudden, be too late to take the August MCAT? Especially now that scores for August MCAT's come back in early September vs. late October!? Think about it . . . .

I took the August MCAT and it wasn't too late. Just make sure that everything else is in before you go and take the MCAT, then the scores will catch up to the rest of your application as soon as they are released. The down side is that you won't know your score before you send it to the medical schools, because it will just automatically be sent (because you'll check the option to have them released to your schools immediately, so that everything is in on time).

Anyway, if I were not a not-trad with a few years out of school already and very anxious to start school sooner rather than later, I might have wanted to wait another year, but I took the August MCAT, and made all the deadlines and was accepted. So, no need to worry.

I took the August MCAT back when it took 2 months to get the scores, submitted primary end of October, recieved plenty of interviews.

As everyone else has said, you'll be fine. The DO cycle does run a bit later than the MD cycle, but getting things in as soon as you can helps significantly in either case.
