Well, I had a cross country race the evening before my MCAT (Sept 8th), and then I had to drive 3 hours west to take the test. I arrived at the hotel at about midnight, set my alarm for 6:45, then got in bed. I was incredibly tired, so I figured I would fall asleep right away and get a good six hours of sleep. I had no such luck, and literally did not even get a minute of sleep. It wasn't the test that was worrying me at all (I wasn't nervous ), but I was just trying too hard to fall asleep.

Needless to say, I wasn't 100% for the test. I thought the PS went well, the BS was ok, but the sleep deprivation killed me for the VR. I had a terrible time concentrating. Oh well, we'll see in a month how I did. I don't want to retake it...

Man that sucks. You didnt try the sleep aid? or wine? or pasta? 🙂
And your right..if your not rested and cant concentrate because of it..verbal is hit hardest. Maybe because you need to take in all this info and answer based on it..unlike the other sections. I took some practice tests when i was running on empty..i did okay on PS and BS, but verbal suffered much more.
Good luck though..i hope your race went well🙂

I appreciate it. Naw, I decided against the sleep aid just because I'm not accustomed to them. I haven't had a problem sleeping like that since I took the SAT (hmm... a trend?), so I'll have to do something before my next major test. 😀

I know what you meant. I too could not fall asleep the eve of the MCAT. It was weird, I didn't feel nervous, I just couldn't sleep. I think my girlfriend's theory that I was nervous but just repressed it was right.

I did the same thing in June. I wasn't nervous (in my stomach) but I just couldn't fall asleep. I went in and felt I did alright on the test, but my score came out on the lower end of my practice scores. I scored around a 26, and I usually average in the 28-30 range. My science scores were on par, but my verbal was a 7 :scared:. I do not plan to repeat that on Tuesday lol. Nyquill is going to be my friend.

happened to me too... but then again i have insomnia... i got little sleep for a couple of days before the test and only got like 2 hours on the big day... like you, i thought everything went ok except verbal.

Well-rested, I scored a 11PS, 7VR, 14BS, P WS in May. On no sleep and a lot of caffeine, I scored a 10PS, 10VR, 13BS, Q WS in August, improving my total score by 1 and VR by 3. I think if you don't let the lack of sleep psych you out and get a little caffeinated jump-start, lack of sleep isn't a total killer.
