Hey everyone,

I just graduated high school and I know it's really early, but I want to start studying for the MCAT as soon as I start college in the Fall. I understand that the test has changed for 2015, so would it be smart to buy a 2015 MCAT book or will it change again by 2017?

Thanks!

You're getting way ahead of yourself. Just take the pre-requisites and work hard in them. Try to truly master the material. That will prepare you for the MCAT plenty well, in my opinion. Also, try to take your first two years of college seriously so that you don't have to rely on an upward trend grades-wise too much. But have fun and enjoy your first couple years of college.

Until you have taken the courses a review book wont be useful. if you took them in highschool, retaking the courses or more advanced ones is a better plan for mcat prep than studying a review book now.

I fully agree with this. Also, starting too early might cause you to burn out.

It's way to early too start studying for the MCAT. Focus on the classes you take that will be on MCAT- understand the material & concepts, and when it comes time to actually study & review for the MCAT, you will have an easier time.

Have you finished: calculus, ap chem and ap physics? it's useless to study otherwise

Agreed. Too early. Do well in your Gen Chem and other pre-req courses (which now include intro psych and others). Get some solid research/volunteering experiences started early, work on getting involved in some clubs (pre-health or otherwise). Don't worry about the MCAT just yet.

I tried to use study books before I took the classes and it didn't work at all. Focus on the other really important aspects of your application, such as volunteering, shadowing, and interesting ECs. If you dedicate a lot of time to those your application will stand out from others.
