MCAT Question

Nothing major but i have about 2-3 years of undergrad. I was going to take the mcat in august after orgo, but i talked to my pre-med advisor and he said i need to take genetics and mammalian physiology before the mcat. i am guessing i am not going to do SUPER well in physics but i don't think i will haev a major problem with others.

should i take the mact with just my prereqs done or should i wait and go another year. either way doesn't matter. i basically would take it to see how i do and to see what its like to see if i need to take it again, but this might not be a great idea.

what do ya'll think?

all you need are the basic sciences. Genetics on the MCAT is basic bio genetics. I did home study after taking physics and gen chem 10 years ago and pulled a 32. read up on all the people who did the same in the "30+ MCAT" post in the MCAT forum. good luck.

i think your advisor is smoking crack. there's no way you need either genetics or mammalian physiology to do well on the mcat. sure, it might make it a little easier, but it's by no means necessary. the mcat is designed to test very basic science knowledge -- as long as you've taken all the prereqs, you'll theoretically have seen everything on the mcat in your classes.

i'd recommend purchasing the examkrackers books and working your way through those. also, try to get hold of kaplan or princeton review materials. taking kaplan online might also be a good thing -- it's cheaper than the lecture class, but the lectures are nothing to write home about.
