I had a medical student tell me today that if you don't have a 30+ on the MCAT, most MD schools will dismiss your primary? Is this true? Basically, if you don't have a 30+ you do not have a shot at any MD school?

I glanced at your application info. Yes i have heard of getting into med school with <30 on mcat. however if your information holds true, you need to do some hard thinking about what you want to do. best of luck in your pursuits!

Yes I know that first MCAT was low! I already took it and I'm waiting on scores.

My daughter has a 29 and has received quite a few screened secondaries and already has an interview scheduled. She is applying early and broadly and has been rejected from 2 reaches already, but hey, she has an interview and it only takes one school.

But she does wish she was 30+ 🙄

It will help if you get 30+. But by no means is it the end of the road to you.

I would be mortified if my parents came on here talking about me.

If you're from Canada, you must have at least a 30 with a 10 minimum on each section and a certain score on writing at most schools, I believe.

Simply not true...an AVERAGE is called a freaking AVERAGE for a reason.

I have SEVERAL overprivileged caucasian male and female friends who got in with a 28s and 29s.

God...do people even read the freaking AAMC website statistics on this sort of thing? It shows literally THOUSANDS of people get in with scores below 30...LITERALLY THOUSANDS

"A score of 30 is like having a..."ruler"... that is 6 inches long...
Smaller can still get the job done, but bigger is better"

Except you don't get to that critical point where it's just so big you start tearing stuff up. Bigger is always better!

Someone was accepted into UFlorida without ever taking the MCAT! Of course, that got one of the deans fired(or resigned or whatever)

no not true but when you combine it with a gpa that is below the 10th percentile of the students they accept then yes you will not stand much of a chance of course

The not-a-chance score for most schools is somewhere around <24, actually. That said, a 30 is just below average for most schools so what that means is the MCAT is not doing much to help you, and may be hurting you. So that makes it all the more important to shine in other areas. If I had a less than 30 I would definitely apply to some DO schools.

As long as you're unidentifiable who cares?

I feel extremely sorry for you daughter... not for her having a 29, for having a mom like you
