Hey guys, i dont really use these forums too much but i had a couple of questions

MCAT on Thursday. I've been studying through Kaplan and I feel like their Full Lengths are hard. Ive read that some people got comparable scores to mine (497-502) who went on to do really well on their MCAT (congrats to them). My question is, I have one Kaplan Full length and the AAMC full length left and I plan on doing one of them tomorrow and MAYBE the other one on Thursday (although everyone seems to be against doing a full length a day before the exam). does anyone have an opinion on which one I should take? I like that kaplan is pretty tough and gives you a score at the end of it but would the AAMC exam be more beneficial?

also, if someone on these forums has compiled a list, can anyone forward me to where I can see how people did on their kaplan FLs and actual MCAT? I know its not a measure of how everyone will/can do, I just think it'll give me some confidence going into the exam. Not gonna lie, these scores on the kaplan exams were a bit tough to look at. thanks in advance for any help! 🙂

AAMC is mandatory. The bio section will be unlike anything you've seen on Kaplan, and it'll be what you see on Thursday. You've waited pretty late to take it though.

Kaplan told us to make sure the AAMC exam is the last one we take. That's why I was working on the Kaplan FLs first

Probably you signed for Kaplan too close to your MCAT in the first place, or scheduled MCAT too close to Kaplan course. Simply because you have to leave time for all the FL's - which appears you now have no time left to finish. It's too late now - take your MCAT, but if you won't be satisfied with your MCAT score - then come back and do all Kaplan FL's and then AAMC ones. AAMC ones are mandatory - it's the golden standard. I'm sure after that you will improve your score a bit.

When should I take the AAMC FL? Two weeks before? (ala this weekend???)

I'm planning on section tests every night to Sunday, and AAMC q-packs as well.

Thoughts (I work f/t or nearly though I am strongly tapering as I inch closer to ... boom!)

I'm taking the AAMC FL this weekend and was wondering what you mean by "unlike anything you've seen on Kaplan" (harder? more critical thinking?). I've mainly been practicing with Kaplan...and it'd be scary if the bio/biochem isn't similar to what I've been using.

They probably told you this for their own benefit and to maximize the money they make.

Taking the AAMC test right before the real thing is entirely pointless. You won't gain anything from it. Taking it when you are say 60% done studying and have good background knowledge is when you can learn from the test and how they test and what they focus on and base your remaining 40% studying around that. That's how you can make gains and improvement.

But alas, take the real AAMC thing asap. It's your best indicator of how you'll do on the real thing. I would not feel comfortable taking the real thing with a 497-502 showing on the AAMC test(although you could easily do way better on it). Bottom line is Kaplan scores are worthless for predicting performance and Kaplan itself is mostly a focus on content review, not a simulation of what you will see on test day.

Hi! I hope your test went well! I just wanted to say that I also took kaplan and haven't been able to score above a 500 on the practice tests. But I also have heard from others that they were on a similar boat and went on to do very well. Please share your scores when you receive them! I would love to get some feedback.

the AAMC practice exam will definitely give you a better idea of how you're doing. My exam was more similar to that than any of the ones Kaplan provided. Although they were hard, I found that the Kaplan FLs were very useful. as a whole, i thought the harder question on my MCAT were on par w the harder questions on the Kaplan FLs, just not as frequent. good luck!
