SO bummed out today. Took the MCAT in April a few years back. Decided to retake it this august. First time I got a 25Q. Sent this score out with my applications. All the schools have accepted it, and I've been given some interviews. Got the August scores back and I got a 23R. I knew there was a chance I could go down. I got the same score as last time, but went down two points in PS (from a 7 to a 5).

So....do schools look at your highest score? I remember when taking the MCAT thinking "this physical science section is really hard!". Guess that was reflected in my score. Still got a 10VR, though.

I think that it depends on the school. I remember reading about some schools that take the highest score and others that take the most recent score. I also remember reading about schools that take all scores into consideration. And, if you applied to any MD schools, some of them combine highest for each section, Tufts comes to mind on that. DO schools, for the most part, use the MCAT as the least important factor out of the many aspects in your application. That isn't to say that if you do miserably on it that it won't keep you out, but I don?t think this applies to you.
I think that you shouldn't let this bring you down. Your scores are not horrible and if you already have interviews then you should be in good shape. Just be honest about your scores and show them that you will be a great student physician, and subsequently a good physician, simply by believing in that yourself. I think, by reading these forums and speaking to some undergrads that I mentor, people worry too much about their flaws and don't believe enough in themselves in general. Walk into those interviews confident that you belong there and that you will be an asset to their school and it will be so.
Good luck and represent NJ to the fullest!

Thanks for the inspiration. 🙂

This whole process is just so stressful at every turn. Nothing seems to go smoothly for me. On top of all of this, my pre med letter has yet to go out.

Nothing in life can be easy.

I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in the end.

I think I aced my interview at WVSOM. I don't want to get an inflated ego, but I know I was able to speak very eloquently on a variety of topics in medicine during the interview. I just know I did really well. What makes it even better is that I loved the school. Wasn't all that interested at first, but came away just loving every part of it.

I especially loved that they are flexible with some of the 3rd and 4th year rotations. I could get back to my beloved Jersey Shore sooner than I thought. 👍

i hope you hear good news from wvsom

keep your hopes up
