Hey guys,

I know you guys hate these threads but I'm in need of your support please 🙁

Just got back my first MCAT score. DISAPPOINTING 22N (7VR,7BS,8PS). I'm feeling like the biggest idiot in the world because I was getting around 30s on my practice tests (AAMC). My Overall GPA is a 3.4 and a science GPA of 3.01 (only have 4 science courses hence the low sci gpa). And my ECs are strong in non clinical community/religious stuff (600 hours) but not that much with clinical exp. with only 60 hours of DO shadowing; also with strong LORs.

Do you guys believe I got a decent chance with DO schools?

Thanks so much:luck:

your shot is as good as anyone elses. you'll never know unless you apply!

but you said you only have 4 science classes? have you taken all the pre req's?

Yes. I'm currently taking Orgo. The completed science courses I have are Phys, chem, bio and some intro to physics course i had to take inorder to take first year phys since I never took physics in high school).

Decent chance? Probably not decent unless the avg MCAT score is 23 or 24.

But you do have a chance. I've read/heard it happen. I'd apply.

Anyone else please? :scared:

Almost all medical schools are going to require that you take multiple courses and laboratories in physical chemistry, biology, physics, and organic. Some schools also require biochem/genetics/social science courses. If you you really only have 4 sciences classes you should have a lot more to take. The good news is that you can still easily raise the science gpa and which will increase the strength of your application alot.

As far as your MCAT goes, it is a pretty low score and without a better science gpa or extraordinary clinical experience its going to be tough to get an acceptance, though not impossible. If you did so much better on the practice tests you might want to consider putting med school off for a year and retaking the MCATs in the spring. This will also give you a chance to raise your science GPA and get some more clinical experience. (although 60 hours of DO shadowing is actually very good - I had 8!)

This all being said, though only thing that gets hurt by applying is your pocketbook. As long as money isn't a huge issue give applying a shot (if you do actually have the pre-reqs)

Try wsvom,vcom,lecom,pscom,dcom. good luck

I too need advice/support and since I am new and can't post new threads I will ask here.

I got a 23L on my MCAT but I have a 3.84 non-science gpa and a 3.71 science gpa. I have very little experience with medical activities because it was only till recently (May) that I decided to apply and take the MCAT. However, I am very serious about becomming a physician. I have only shadowed 2 DOs. However I am an athlete and 2 sports took up most of my time in college. I also have a lot of community service.

I know my MCAT is pretty bad, but does anyone think I have a chance of getting accepted to some DO schools?

Personally, I don't believe that 4 science classes are enough to prove ability to succeed in med school. I know that I have had a heck of a time taking many many science classes, probably taken 4 in only 1 semester. Would I feel confident about going to medical school with such little experience in the sciences? No way! It's a whole new ballgame when you're taking science courses. The journey and trials are worth as much as the knowledge you gain. You're not dropping jaws with a 45T and 4.0 so I would take more classes. I don't mean to be too harsh, but I don't want people to think that getting into medicine is some cakewalk. I have had a lot of things influence my decision to be a doctor. I have been through all the "weed out" classes and still have the passion. If you decide to apply, best of luck to you but I think you will find what I say to be true at some point, even if it's not until your first round of tests in med school.

I don't think you understood where I'm coming from.

First off I'm in a university that combines all its science courses. So in American equivilents I will have 9 courses in total by matriculation. Also, medicine isn't only for science majors. It's for non traditional majors like myself too. I'm in Psychology so I have plenty of experience learning about a lot of stuff that is related to medicine and I still want to do it. These things includes studying the etiology, epidemiology and treatment of psychological disorders as well as learning a lot of anatomy/physiology, albeit focusing only on the Nervous systems.

I didn't casually decide to become a physician, I had a life altering experience back home that has compelled me to want to become one. It's pretty much my life passion and I will do anything that is possible to achieve it.

But I do appreciate your opinion nonetheless.

Cheers:luck:
