Hey, I was looking for some input. I got an email this morning saying the prometric center i registered to take the mcat at over 1 month ago is shut down and they are saying nothing else is availible in california. What should I do, this is really unfair. They are telling me to fly out to another state to take the mcat which I think is a load of crap.

wow, what a bunch of bull****... I would call and/or email them saying that you demand they relocate you in a nearby region (for free, of course) and that it is not possible for you to fly out to a diff. state

I called once and the person on the phone kept saying there's nothing he could do. I'm calling them again right now, but this damn 40 min hold time isn't helping my anger right now.

I've been put in a special accommodations room for a test on the same date, but if someone with special needs asks for that room, I will automatically get kicked out of the test and lose my spot to that person. So I guess I don't know if I'll actually be taking the test until I actually go to the testing site on test day. Ugh, this is so stressful : /

wow if taking the mcat wasn't stressful enough. something similar happened to me as well but luckily i decided to postpone until january anyway. i got the email a few days after i cancelled my mcat seat and didn't really care about it since i wasn't going to take it anyway. but its weird how they're closing down while the mcat is still going on

Are you talking about the prometric center in Redlands? I got the same email today. Luckily I called early enough to get a spot in Fresno on the Sept 6th. Almost a 5 hour drive but I'll just have to go with it. It sucks cause the Prometric site here is only 2 mins away from where I live.

Yeah thats the one. That's a load of crap. they need to find a way to open up more seats somewhere around the area if they are going to shut down a testing center.

Yeah I know what you mean. A couple of my friends already decided to just take it in January. Just sucks when you study so hard and things that are out of your control just get in the way.

Yeah. I don't know what to do now. Should I back off or keep studying like I'm going to be taking the test on the 7th.

I had to deal with the same crap. I was really stressing I wouldn't get another date as I've been studying all summer and am looking forward to going abroad immediately after the test and relaxing. It would suck to still have the MCAT looming over my head, when I had it planned out for fall semester to be my chillaxin time.

I ended up registered for a location in San Diego and paid the $70 transfer fee. When I called them they tried to tell me that I couldn't get a refund, needless to say, enough bitching and I got my money back.

People will get scared and cancel their test date, so my advice is just keep studying and check the page for available spots hourly. Best of luck in getting a spot.

Yeah I agree with SultanPepper. Just keep studying for it while at the same time check if there are openings or constantly bug them. Hopefully that special accommodations room you got works out. Good luck!

Well, what sucks is that I can even check if there are openings. When I log on to the test registering site, it says something along the lines of call this number, your test site has been closed, and it won't let me reschedule online or check if there are openings at test centers. I can only call. Jeez, how am I supposed to NOT hate these people for making life so difficult?

I had the same thing happen to me, but earlier in the year (my original test date was June 24) and I ended up getting pushed to Aug 4. It really sucks and it's super stressful, but I'm glad you at least got the accomodations spot - they don't give those out unless it's the week of the exam, as I've learnt.

Just wanted to give you a heads up that they -should- have given you the free move for test date/location - but if you want to change it again you might have to pay the extra fees. I called and had complained because I wasn't made aware of this, and they took care of it within the day.

Good luck with this and for everyone involved, I see multiple threads on SDN about it...

Are you sure? I went through aamc.org to do it, and I could reschedule it. You might risk not having them refund the $70, but I got them too.

I was able to check yesterday but today I can't. The guy I was talking to yesterday scheduled me to a test on September 11 about an hour away from my place, but the testing site is a Holiday Inn Hotel. Is that normal lol?

I don't know. But, when I called and re-scheduled the lady said she had registered me for an August 20th test date.... there is no August 20th test date. So I would double check!
